View Full Version : External Tach Mounting Locations

I've been wanting to get an external tach like a Sunpro or an Auto Gage, but I'm not really sure how to go about mounting it in my '94 C1500.

I don't want to drill any holes and ruin a good dash, so I was thinking of mounting it on the steering column. I've seen that done before, but I'm not sure how exactly it was done. Another option is that I have a little cubby hole where the factory radio used to be because I have an aftermarket headunit mounted beneath the center vents, so I could mount it in that cubby hole somehow.

Any thoughts and/or pictures on how to go about mounting a tach in either of those locations would be great.

(Looking to use approximately a 2 3/4" tach).

why not just buy a cluster with a factory tach and set your mileage into it?

I mounted mine on the bezel around the gauges. Clean, and that piece is cheap at a yard if I want to remove it. I was going to mount it in the cubby hole, but no way to do it without modding. I have pics in my build thread.

this is how mine worked. i used the same size u are looking for, and i used a small nut and bolt to attach it to the plastic gauge surround on top of the steering column. it centers perfectly in the middle of the speedo, but urs might not work out that way, depends on how the needles line up.
