Well I know most of you hate the punk kids that ride around with there loud sub woofers etc... Well usually I do to buy I am considering getting a set up myself. I won't listen to much rap I will listen to all Rock mostly.

Almost all my door speakers are trash, so I would like to get a new head unit, some door speakers, and maybe a 12 inch sun behind the back seat. Bad thing is I have no idea of what brand of door speakers or sub and size or brand of amp.

Also where you keep the box at? I have a ex cab e
3 door pickup.

What would you guys recommend? Or is there any special thing you would recommend while wiring it up?

theres a whole write up about different speakers and subs. personally i have kicker 6.5" speakers in my doors and 2 10" kick comp subwoofers underneath the rear seat and i love them; great sound. As far as a box i made mine, but you can buy yours. http://subthump.com/Chevrolet-GMC-Sub-Boxes/Silverado-Sierra-Extended-Cab/9906-GM-Extended-Cab-Ultra-Deep-Dual-1012-Downfire-Box.html

I'd go with a smaller sub, like 8 inches, bass will be tighter and less sloppy. As for what kind of speakers and head unit to go with.... it is all in what you want and your budget.

Basically speaker diameter effects how efficiently the speaker will move air and create a sound wave. this is why tweaters are small and subs are large. If you have a smaller sub it will be more effective at keeping the higher bass notes crisp, however if your interest is rap with lower longer notes this wouldn't be such an issue. A lot if this can be adjusted based on how you mount your sub as well.

subs only sound sloppy because of a poor install with a proper install witch includes proper box size port tuning port area witch with a regular slot port box should be between 12-16 square inches per cubic foot

an 8 can hit low note like 35-28hz if the box was built to recomended air space
and
an 15 can hit higher notes like 47-70hz

I understand exactly how a speaker works, but saying a larger sub sounds sloppy just isn't true. I ran two 15" eclipse aluminums for years that were crisp as could be.

A sub is only as good as the install and the power you're putting to it.

Alright lets say i wanna do dual 12's does anyone have all the dimensions of the box to mount under the back seat and not sound sloppy.

Also is there a way to hook it up so it isnt just a base, i can flip it to play without base and hear clear music like my factory door speakers?

Didn't mean to insult you, I actually thought you were asking me a question. I know that if you build an inclosure right you can tighten up a large speaker, but dealing with the space under a rear seat it can be a bit trickier. If you have a solid amp and good sub woofers it should be fine, I was just trying to point out if it was a budget build a smaller woofer would probably be the way to go. My apologies if I misunderstood you.
