Hello all,
New member here. Checked out the site for awhile now and have been looking for a truck and found one. A 2008 GMC 2500HD Diesel 6.6l LMM. Love the truck and this site.

Was wondering about getting a programmer for it along with a new/bigger exhaust and air intake. Was told I can get some very substantial fuel improvement. (frome 18-20mpg to 28-30 mpg) BUT I have also heard that by doing this work to the truck (warranty is over) that it is likely/possible that I could blow some injectors or other major damage to the motor. Of course I don't need these kind of problems. If I go to the programmer sites all they want to do of course is sell their units and NEVER give any bad reviews etc.

Was hoping there are people here with actual life experience with programmers and don't have a sale to grind that would give an honest opinion on the units.

Thankyou for your time on this matter.

programmer will void the warranty
you will never get 28-30 mpgs
you wont blow the injectors
go with ppe or find someone that has efi live

EFI Live is the best, totally custom tuning and very safe. It will be the easiest on the engine.
5" straight pipe exhaust would be my suggestion, and with EFI you can remove all the emissions, which will help things last longer.

Check out this place www.duramaxtuner.com .There are several options, and ways to get efilive.Plus it is cheaper than most programmers.Just tell them what you are after. As long as you don't get crazy,(100hp or less gain)your engine will last just as long.Plus if you tow, they can program in the turbo brake just like the new trucks have.It is a little addictive, cause there is not much limit on how much power you can get.
www.performancetruckproducts.com Look here for exhaust.Look at the diamond eye systems.Very affordable.I have installed several of these kits, and they all fit well.Unless you are going for big power you only need the 4"system.

You will not get 28-30 mpgs.20 is about it.I have heard better, but have never seen it,and I have put efilive on at least a dozen duramaxs.

The emission delete is also a good choice, but if you have to get your truck tested,it is a huge pain.

Perhaps you heard of injector problems from someone with an earlier duramax, pre-2005 i believe. A pricey change-out when not under warranty.

The injector issue is for 01-04.5 LB7 models. He has a 08 LMM model. But that has nothing to do with the use of a programmer. It is either ball seat erosion,(crap fuel, lack of filtration, bad design)or a cracked injector body.

Yes, I can read. I was merely offering a possible answer to his injector concern...
