has anyone used the Hayden mister system for towing? I did a check of the form and did not find anything?

No need to bump a 2.5hr old thread. Never heard of the system and looking into it doesn't seem really overly practical to have.

Seems like a waste to me.
A bigger radiator would do the same. If you want more cooling/cleaner engine or more power too, water injection or water meth injection is the way to go.

lets see bigger radiator $500+,mist cooling system $80...its a no brainer, anyways i'm broke lol...So I heard that it will cool better than a Efan especially on those long steep grades in sort one second bursts..Hayden states it will cool down the engine by 40Deg....

How often does the bigger radiator have to be refilled because it ran empty and is no longer helping you cool the truck?

In the summer when hauling hay I'll spray the coolers for my truck with the garden hose to drop some temp, within 2 miles of leaving the farm though even empty you can't tell I did anything. It's more or less to keep the dust and dirt out of them. I think you'd be constantly misting water in if you found it did help and you'd run out of water rather quickly on a hot day. Not to mention that 100* water from sitting in the sun probably isn't going to cool very effectively.

very well put...yea sounded good anyway... i think i will just put ina high CFM Efan for the just in case scenario..i was thinking a ford tauras fan because they can push 5000 CFM....

oh I just read your post again..I think you dont understand what the mist system does it is set up onthe out side of your radiator and it mist's the out side of the radiator when your going up a grade. your radiator is full and closed. the mist system is not in the inside of the raidator...the system is set up with a 5 gallon tank that mounts any place you want and a button in the cab activates the spray nozzel that is located in the front of th radiator. it works kinda like backyard mister's to cool the radiator and motor..

I understand how it works. Is what I was saying is that this system is only effective when it's got cool water in it. A radiator is always full, therefor it's always working. I was agreeing with KCB in larger coolers/radiator is a better idea then a water mister to keep things cool.

Unless you are grossly overloaded, this would be a waste of good money. I tow a lot, especially in the warmest months. Have never seen temps exceeding 225 on the tranny and engine stays about 200 (by guage.) I will admit I'm not climbing the grapevine with 15,000 behind me; but pulling 10 5x6 rolls of hay (1100# each) on a 4500# trailer up gravel roads in May,June,July in Tennessee I see my share of "hot."
Misting system would only be good if it were possible to stay clean too!

I'm towing a 21' toyhauler fully loaded its 10000..it has never got above 225 but i was pulling on some small hills. oh and my suburbanhas a 6" lift and 38 size tires...the temps out in the high desert of calif get in the 120 deg and i do tow up the 14 freeway, all up hill for about 30 miles pretty steep grade. What would everyone suggest to put on the rig to have a emergancy cooling if I were to need it, and not have high price tag? looking for people with this kinda experiance..thx

add a secondary pusher fan in the front to backup the stock setup that can be controlled by a switch from inside

I have one on my bigblock radiator that I built out of an old washer bottle unit. It cools alot when pulling a pass. It noticably drops the temp.( when water evaporates it pulls heat from the surface its on)This also makes the A/C put out cooler air when it is really hot! I have tested that with my a/c equipment.

well I instaled the Hayden mist system in my suburban and it rocks. I just put in a new GM goodwrench 454 motor in and went on a 200 trip. I was towing approximatly 7000 lbs. It was 104 in palmdale when we left I had the windows up and AC blasting, the temp would rise up to around 210 and then I would hit the misters and it would drop down to 180 and the AC was ICE COLD. I only used it when I was pulling a long hill. I give the mist system two thumbs up. If I did not have it it would have done great but it really felt good knowing that i could hit a step hill with ac blasting and no worry of overheating ever.

Glad someone likes them. Had one on a company truck ,I felt it was a complete waste, Didnt seen to do a dang thing when I was loaded in the hills.

Ours didint do squat, We actually thought so little of the system that we left it on the truck when we sold it.
