so i got a 2002 5.3 silverado and i would like to get a bit more ommph outta it but i cant go leave it in a shop to have longtube headers and custome tune done to it or put the cam etc in it so i need bolt on mods that can be done relatively fast in a driveway on a sunday afternoon,

typical intake exhaust hand held tuner short tube headers?

i have all the tools id need at home besides welder plasma cutter etc (expensive stuff) but i got all air tools and hand tools id need i think

so main question is do short tube headers add power and noise? are they worth it or should i just go with a custom cat back setup?

and is there a "free cai" mod on the chevys? (ex drilling holes in bottem of air box instead of replacing with a k&n system etc?

and which cold air intake is best for money if the answer to above is no

anything im missing? thanks

So far you are off to a bad start lol. Shorties do nothing, longtubes take about 2-3 hours to install. Handhelds are a waste of time, money and effort. A custom tune can be mailed to you and then you shipped your core back or keep it.

Cold air intakes are a waste of money, just open up the airbox and run a good filter.

Well i can instal the headers easily enough its the Y pipe and after im concerned about since idk how or where the y pipe would be placed after the longtubes and how to get the part after installed without the people laughing me outta the place or rippin on me for not having cats?

+ blackbear hasnt emailed me back about the tunes yet so still unsure

Good headers will bolt to stock or aftermarket cat back, I havent had cats in a long time.

Then get a flowmaster cat back kit or whatever exauhst kit you want will bolt on to the pacesetter y. Justin has been very buisy so it will take a couple of days maybe even three to here back from them.

Already learning what needs to be done. Justin is usualy very quick to get back with people via email so I wouldn't expect it to take much longer.

The only down side to having him send you a tuned computer is you may need to have a crank re-learn done. Not a big deal but I think is usualy costs about $50 and you have to go to a dealer typicaly. If you can put the truck down for a week that would be best in my opinion. It just saves any extra hassle with the crank re-learn. Plenty of guys have swaped computers and not needed to do a relearn.

Having a custom exhaust only takes a few hours if you have a local shop you trust. Intall the headers and have them run the rest. Shouldn't cost much if any more and you know it will fit without an issue.

Buy any brand catback you wish to run. Buy the system they offer for your year and body configuration. It will come equipped to bolt to your factory Y pipe or an aftermarket Y pipe with factory style end. No gasket needed between the Y and catback.
