I have picked up a couple of projects. The first one I am taking on is a 97 Chevy sw crew cab. It did not have a motor or transmission in it. I have picked up a 97 5.7L Vortec motor but now having a hard time finding a transmission. I have found a lot of 4l60e transmissions from other vehicles but none from that specific year and out of a full size truck. What else is compatible as a direct plug and play. More specific, will a 99 LS1 SS Camaro 4l60e work?

the camaro trans will not work without an adapter kit pretty much anything 96 and up will work even the newer case will work if it came from behind a 5.7 or a 4.3 but anything from behind a ls based motor will not without an adpater kit

Thanks.
Another question. The truck is a 3/4 ton 8 lug, it did not come with a motor or tranny. I have picked up a 97 (same year as my truck) 5.7L Vortec motor, harness, brain that had a 4wd 4L60E. My truck being an original 5.7L with a 4L80E, what kind of issues will I be getting into with going to the 4L60E 2wd?

IMO your wasting time with a 4l60e put the 4l80e its supposed to have in it.
it will be cheaper in the long run.

Hi "BL929RR" I'm building a similar truck like your dark blue one I saw in a different thread. Mine is a 1999 3/4 ton 2wd shortbox crew cab, black with tan leather interior. I bought it with a seized motor. I have since swapped it for another low k 350 Vortec and reused the 4L80E since it had been recently replaced by the p.o. To get back on topic i was thinking about buying a running donor truck and swap it all out as a package including a 4L60E. I'm also swapping my suspension for 1/2 ton stuff and lowering it 4/6 with DJM spindles, coils, and flip kit with a notch. I figured the 4L60E would be plenty strong enough for mostly touring and hauling the odd load. If you get a chance I would like to see some more pics. of your project.
Thanks.
Rob
