hey guys i have a 84 k10 and im going to check out a military k5 with the 6.2 motor and a th400 trans. i know that motor isnt very good but is there anything else i need to be real concerned about? do these trucks have the 3/4 ton front and rearend? does anyone have one if so can you give me a little info about it?

the 6.2 is not a bad motor, just way under powered. they only have stock 1/2 ton rear ends in them, should be a 12 bolt rear, 10 bolt front. they are stripper models with only bare minimum interior wise. usually they are very low mileage. i believe they are 24 volt though, but easily converted to a normal 12 volt system.

thanks for the info. so they have super low torque too? what would you think one would be worth that is pretty straight with no rust and a bout 70,000 miles? also what gears 373 or 410?

no sure on gears, but i think they had 3.08's.

selling varies. seem them sell for super cheap up to more than i would pay. if i had to guess, $3k maybe, but seen them listed for more locally.

torque is not to bad. but i think they only have like 150HP and just over 200 Ft./lbs or torque

the military spec 6.2's have higher hp than civilian models, 165hp and 330ft lbs, feels about like a carbed 350 under normal driving. axles are stock half ton. i would keep the 24 volt system more cranking power and the only thing run on 24v is the starter

all info i have shows the normal 150HP and 257 Ft/lbs's out of the 6.2 in it.

the military spec 6.2 have a higher hp. not sure of all the differences, but i think they have a different intake and a turned up pump
