Lift advice

Buddy of mine gave me some BFGoodrigh Mud Terrain tires (35x12.50R15 with the wheels) my only problem is I was going to buy the 6" rough country lift, and my rear brakes decided they wanted to take a **** and i dropped 700 bucks in repairs. Im not the most mechanically sound person when it comes to trucks. So I was wonderiong if I could find a 3inch body lift and crank the torsion keys 2 inches would I be able to fit the tires?

If anyone has any suggestions on the cheapest way of getting the minimum lift required I would be all ears.

Well if your truck is a 1998 2wd S-10 then I doubt you will clear them, if your truck is a 2006 Kodiac I think you should be able to clear them just fine! Welcome to the site but help us out a little more on your application and what wheels they will be going on.

Oh yeah! my truck is a 1994 Suburban K1500 4x4 and he gave me a 4inch block lift for the rear too cause I was planning on getting a pro comp lift. The wheels im not sure on the brand i just know their 15x12.50.

The wheels are 12.5" wide? I doubt it, that is a really odd width for a wheel.

If those tires are 35x12.5x15 there is no way the rims are also 12.5" wide, see how the side wall sucks back in meet the rim at the bead? Those wheels are 8" or 9" wide max. I would say with a BL and crank you will clear them all day long.

Ok cool. I wouldnt mind spending the money on a suspension lift its just repairs and a bunch of other things came up and messed up my finances.
But thank you for the advice I was really worried about having to wait even longer to put everything together.

I need a torsion bar tool to crank the keys right? Im not really sure on how to go about doing all of this. lol

theres no special tool to crank them only if you want to remove them. i take a jack and bring up ur front to take tension off the fron wheels. (make sure e-brake is on and rear is blocked) then you can take a racthet and crank them up. i did mine on my last truck this way

Just turn the torsion bolts the same number of times, set it back on the ground and drive it around the block to settle it in, measure your front fenders to make sure you are level from side to side, then go get an alignment because your tires will now be tipped out on the top and will wear the outside of the tires unevenly.

Ok cool. Um, will I have to do some trimming since these are 35s on a block lift? I was doing some reaserch last night and I think I read this right. I can block lift it and add like a 2inch suspension lift to give me added clearance..? It didnt sound right so I figured I would ask people who know what theyre doing.
And they werent really given to me I gave him a 100$. I figured it was a good deal since theyre 35 with the wheels and I wanted something cheap for my ffirst time with a lifted truck. lol.

The 2" suspension crap that companies sell you is just new torsion keys. Just crank your stock keys and it will give you that much lift but I wouldnt advise only cranking to level or your front end will hate life.

Just get a 3" body lift and crank to level, you will clear the 35's.

Ok cool. lol. I was just making sure, I am kind of a newbie on this stuff and prolly ask a lot of dumb questions. lol. I can work on F16s but cant work on my own truck kind of bass ackwards.

How will I know when the truck is level? Do I crank them to a certain point and stop?

Measure the height of your rear fenders and then just crank each bolt that turns the keys and measure your front fender height until they are level with the back. Make sre you turn both of the two bolts evenly so that the front fenders are the same height. After you drive it around for a bit the front end will settle a bit though. Make sure you get the truck aligned too or your front tires will wear unevenly.

Ok no problem sounds easy enough. What are leveling kits? like the same thing, just block lifting the rear?

Leveling kits are either new torsion keys or spring spacers for IFS trucks. For an OBS ('88-'98) torsion keys are for 4WDs and spring spacers for 2WDs. For a NBS ('99-'07 classic) truck, you need re-indexed torsion keys to be able to crank the front end higher than the stock keys will allow. The design for the OBS stock keys allows you to crank way further than is safe to run without wearing through front end parts which is why a leveling kit for these trucks is just a money grab. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think "leveling" kits come with any blocks for the rear.

Some kits do come with blocks, but then you obviously have to level the front more to reach the height of the added blocks. Mine had 1.5" blocks and re-indexed keys for NBS

Yeah I just bought a body lift and hopefully it works out. If not I will just dwonsize the tires to 33s. I appreciate the information guys.

I have one more stupid queston. Is it possible to do both a leveling and block lift?

It is possible you just have to crank the front end a lot higher, which is unadvised as you will wear out front end parts a lot faster and your ride quality will suffer.

Body lifts are cheap. Just make sure everything is adjusted length wise like the fuel inlet tubes, brake/accelorator arms and wiring isn't kinked or binding. Wheel spacers have serious issues with keeping there shape and not ovalating or warping. I say get a 3" body lift and a 2" coil spacer up front and a 2" lift block or add-a-leaves for the rear.

A coil spacer? Ive never heard of them so ill give them a look see. Also, my friend has 4 floor jackstands and 1 floor jacks. Hopefully its enough?
