will it work ok, I am in the process of rebuilding my 305 and found some salvagable 906 vortec heads, from what i have read i will have to mill the heads.....but how much and i planned on using stock pistons but would i benefit from using flat tops? is it even worth it to retrofit the 350 heads on....at this point i do not want to buy a 350 block so trying to make due with what I have found for cheap....your opinions are greatly appreciated. I will be using the edelbrock 2102, and plan on either a ebl or tbi chip. What are your thoughts? should i just keep the stock heads?

If you can get them for a really good price (aka 150 or less) then get them, and use them on a 350. Do some mild bowl work on the 305 heads and reuse them for now... I understand you're in a rebuild process but a 350 is one of the easiest ways of going up in displacement without spending a lot of money.

They were free so I couldn't say no, another question, will the vortec heads fit on any 350 block I found a 350 block on Craigslist for 40 bucks just not sure of the year and what not. I would rather find a complete 350 and buy the eagle 400 crank for a 383. Will that cam work well with a 383. And if I do Put the 305 back together with some port work, full exhaust that can and a tune could I expect signicant power gains

It would probably run quite a bit better but the 305s have more valve shrouding than the 350swhich hurts airflow Plus I forfot to mention the 350 heads may not work because the 305 heads actually had smaller valves. The Vortec heads will work on any 350 except the LT1 style blocks.

Well I found a complete 92 350 for 50 bucks so I am going with that, but now my next question is how hard is it to go to 383 just the eagle crank or is there more to be done that I am not seeing?

Found this on craigslist, for 50$ so I believe I will be going with a 383 stroker ...and ebl,,,but will I need a 454 tbi? And what intake is good? I dont need any emission parts. Still going with the 2102 edelbrock cam. what do you think?

Eagle has QC issues. Scat makes better parts. You will have machine work to do to clear the .25" stroke increase. It isn't a bolt in and go modification.

So if i buy this crank, have my block ground to clear, and use an externally balanced balancer, can i use my stock rods and pistons?

either the pistons or the rods have to go. The increase in stroke requires a shorter rod, or a piston with the wrist pin moved up. Otherwise the piston would come out of the block at tdc.

actually these quote me 9.6 to 1 with 64cc heads (which is what I believe the stock vortecs are) and a 5.7 rod

Those will work, gotta get the block bored though.

Here's what I have, I didn't go .030 over so I'd have a little more material if I ever had to bore again. It's the ZWH859CP line on Summit's site, add 20, 30, 40, etc. on the end to get .020, .030, etc.

I just realized these are the exact same pistons I linked. A machine shop can tell you how much the engine would need to be bored, if at all. $166 is a good price for sure. I probably have close to 15,000 daily driven miles on mine with no issues, running a Scat crank and rods. You need to have the engine balanced by a shop after you get the pistons, rods, crank and balancer. I had my machine shop order the rotating assembly and balancer & balance it all for me... spent a little more but I was in a little bit of a hurry & didn't really have time to shop around. The balancer you will need will be dictated by the crank, mine used a 400 balancer.

awesome man, i am stoked to get it all together, will this balance plate work? So you did not get your cylinders bored? I will ask my machine shop if i need to get it bored, how do you think the 2102 cam will do with this setup?

You will use a different crank than the older style. You will be using an aftermarket crank, as there were never any 3.75" stroke cranks installed in 1-piece rms block. You should be able to use a stock flywheel/flexplate once everything is together, I actually used the original flexplate from my TBI 4.3. The only external difference would be the balancer.

Sorry to shoot all the questions at once, but is the eagle crank that bad? Can I just have my machine shop check it, its about 100 difference between scat and eagle. I am a smog tech by trade, so we were taught more how to make things have less power than more haha. And if i do go with the eagle crank how will I know if I need a 400 balancer.

You'll be selling yourself short with a 2102 cam imo. I have a COMP XE264HR (212/218 @ .050", powerband 1,200-5,200) and down low torque is awesome, still pulls hard up top too. You'll be able to tune it no problem with the EBL. In all reality I would probably go with this one (http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=208&sb=0), and I probably would've changed it already but I don't have the gearing or a transmission that will survive with a bigger cam.

Far as the crank, I went off research of their finishing process... if I remember right their grinding/finishing process isn't as good as Scat. All my Scat components measured within .0005" AT THE MOST, the majority of it measured dead-on. Granted I'm not a die maker by trade, my dad is and he's taught me (crash-course-wise) to use several precision tools needed for measuring stuff like journal/bore diameter, etc.

Hmmm only problem is i have already ordered the 2102 cam(was planning on just rebuiulding the 305 stock), I guess I will use it until later if I want to upgrade,,,what size throttle body should I be using? 454 with 454 injectors? I got z28 springs for the vortec heads and they should be going out tomorrow to the machine shop, then i will make my attempt at porting them.
