Im planning on installing new speakers and head unit in my 02 silverado 1500 extended cab
the speakers i have now are aftermarket i think (bought it and had all the wires for a system in it but stock hu and no subs)
im not sure how to get the door pannels off and where all the speakers are but i have all the special door tools i need i think
anyone help me?
need a good set of cheaper speakers that work well and a basic headunit that can play my ipod and sounds good

The door panel is held on by clips and two nuts I think. Youtube has several videos showing the R&R of the door panels and head unit as well.

I put a set of these in my sisters Yukon and they turned out pretty well.

I can't remember what headunit I used, it was either an alpine or a pioneer. Turned out pretty well.
The door panels are held on mainly by a bolt in somewhere around the middle of the door near the handle. The lock switch pops off, as do the panels with all of the electrical components, and then the trim piece on the inside of the mirror.
After you've got all screws out and connections unhooked lift up on the door panel by the handle and it will come up and off the door frame.
Once the panel is off the speakers are pretty easy to wire up, although I'd suggest running new heavier gauge cable strait from the speakers to the headunit. The sock wires are small and go through a pretty weak amp and crossover.
If the truck already had a system in it before there may be wires run like that already.

You have W/T or SL door panels?
As far as headunit is concerned, make sure you get the right dash mount for your truck. Theres a trillion out there by schoshe and other companies. Installing is as simple as colour to colour, so unless your colourblind shouldnt be a problem. :D Speakers are pretty straight forward. Wire them in, if they need to be mounted, drill holes and screw them in.
Speakers - Alpine Type S
HU - Pioneer 4300DVD
just :imo though, everybody is going to yell differently and it all depends on what you want out of it.

Fronts should be 6.5in speakers, and I think the rear speakers are 5in.

do you have power windows/locks or manual?
2 - 6.5", 6.75" will work too for the front
2 - 4x6 in the rear.
