Truck is a 98 305 vortec. The cat is clogged up and needs to be replaced. On my previous truck the old owner hollowed out the cat. If i do this to the 08 truck with the o2 sensor after will this set off the engine light? and is there a way to fix this so it wouldnt set off a code?

I suggest a thunderbolt cat off ebay. A lot of people run them and they are pretty inexpensive and good quality. But you shouldn’t get any codes the other way. Stick with a cat though. They don’t hurt performance like old cats.

also another question if anyone is running no cat with an o2 sensor simulator... where did you order one from?

You don't need sims. That's even cheaper. Throw away money if you want though.

if you dont want a check engine light you do need them

No you don't. Its a 96 so it has heated sensors. The older 1 wire sensors would cause a ses light because they wouldn't get hot and read if the flow was to great. Not because of no cat.

But I said he should get a new cat and those are cheaper then o2 sims he doesn't need.

In a 2 O2 OBD2 truck, the rear O2 monitors catalyst efficiency, so a CEL will be triggered if the cat is gutted or removed.

The fact the sensor is heated to improve initial lit-off time has no bearing on the issue at hand.

This. Unless you get a custom tune to address the fact of there not being a cat the light will stay on.

Or run an O2 simulator to lie to the ECM that the cat is doing it's job just fine.

The guy I do side work for had the cats stolen off two of his work trucks and he just put pipes in them. Never had a SES light. They were OBD2. Maybe he got lucky.

My suburban is a 97, after searching and asking here and getting the answer that the light will come on but run fine, I removed my cats, runs good, a little louder, and the light is always on for the cats, I know why its on, and when I get a tune, it won't be anymore, so when they say that the light will come on, trust them, the light will come on.

Or instead of spending $50 for no real reason, you could buy another cat or even better for a small amount more get a custom tune.
