I've always loved my full size Chevys, but since I reluctantly parted with my '89 Burban, I've been stuck in smaller, and smaller cars. Just this past week I went back to my love with a '91 K3500. TBI 454, 4L80E, and a limited slip 14 bolt. It's like I'm in love all over again. Even though this truck has been throwing me some curve balls. Bought it on Saturday, filled the tank, Sunday morning I had a puddle of fuel under my truck. Turns out the previous owner used it to put boats in the water and never washed the salt water off. The tank rusted straight through the bottom. After replacing the tank, and pump it ran for a few days, and then boom, brake line blew out. Replaced the brake line, and the diff started leaking from a rust hole in the bottom of the cover. Now that's replaced and here I am waiting for the other shoe to fall so to speak. Ha ha. Despite all that I'm still deeply in love. Next move is replacing the single wire O2 sensor with a heated one.
Would love to hear anyone's opinions of the truck, as well as ideas on what might go next. Also three things that I don't like 1. The Alternator output doesn't seem to be where it should, but the thing looks brand new. Any suggestions on a more powerful unit? 2. The oil pressure gauge seems to run high. I've been told this can be due to a tired oil pressure sending unit. Would love any advice here. Just did plugs and wires and the old plugs looked clean as could be. 3. I get a SES light after a good long time driving. Flashed the code out and it came up as a code 44, or lean fuel mixture. Someone suggested a fuel filter, which I just did, but any other advice would be helpful. The light was coming on before, and after having done the fuel tank and pump, so it shouldn't have anything to do with that.
Anyway feels great to be back in the Full Size Chevy family and looking forward to many miles from this truck. Thanks in advance for any advice.
