Ok fellas, blew out the old 3.08 r&p in the '85 Chevy k-10. Put in DuraGrip posi trak with 3.73 r&p. Backlash is set everything seems to be in working manner, no noise going down the road. My only concern IS....

The axles have side to side, horizontal play, all bearings and seals have been replaced, no leaks, nothing in the obvious problem range; everything seems to be fine.
Ive researched, discussed with pro's and heard the play is normal BUT.. the axles CAN touch the pin in the middle of the posi carrier. (the pin that secures the spider gears etc.)

Im concerned that on a corner, or anything heavy momentum, push etc. will push an axle into that pin and grab/snag/tear it and shell the new goods. I cant exactly get a great measurement on the amount the axle can move past the pin. i.e. if the axle were to slide all the way inward until stopping, how far would it go into the pin.

I tried getting a feeler gauge (on smallest slice) and it wont slide between axle and pin so I know there is contact. Is this common? is this a problem? does centrifugal force keep this potential accident from happening?

Im lost of explanation of if this is something to worry bout, ANY info or thoughts is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
