Hey I just bought some worn and grooved 38x14x15 thornbirds and 15x12 rims for my 89 rcsb. Now idk how much back spacing these rims have so this is my only worry. That and they are such wide tires.
So right now I got a crank and 2 inch block. This summer I ran 305/70/16s and had a rim with alot o backspacing. They didn't rub at all except for when I accident jumped it. These new rims look like they have even less back spacing so I prolly could have got 35x12.5/15 without he body lift.
So it'll be interesting trying to get these on with the body lift. If I have no way of getting these to fit then I'll either wait to buy a 6 inch kit or sell them. Either way I'm not to worried cuz I got the rim tire combo for $450 and a jerry can and I could turn around and sell them for 1k anyway.
So I'll keep this updated as I try and fit these guys. But my question is what do u think I'll rub the most. I'm pretty good at fab and welding as that's what I'm going to school for. I plan on taking out the fender wells and cutting the bumper and bulging out the fenders. I'm not to worried about the rear plenty of space there.

my friend fit 40x16x16.5 super swamper tsl's on 16.5x12 rims and a 4 inch body lift and fender trimming, rubs on the front inside but can still turn pretty well 89 1 ton 454 efi single cab longbed

Generally speaking, most people are lucky to fit 35s with a crank + BL, the probability of 38s fitting are really slim.

I could have fit 35's on my OBS Tahoe with just a crank and block. With my 33's, I had plenty of room. Prob would have rubbed, but I could have put 35's on it.
38's with BL + crank + block....that's gonna be tight.

35s with no BL, no block, and 1.5" crank.

You might be able to fit 38s with a 3" BL, but you would definitely need to trim and the tires may rub the frame on stock wheels.

yeah they will prolly rub at least on the frame when im done but i shouldnt have a huge issue with the body with a little bit or persuasion. i think itll be very interesting to see what i can do. i have never seen a obs with this small of a lift and this big of a tire so it will be unique. i was kinda inspired after reading kirks trucks with this lift and 40s even tho they were really skinny tires on stock rims.
question, would 4:10s be livable with 38s? cuz ill prolly go down to 35s next time so i dont wanna gear to low. also anyone in michigan have a 14 bolt rear theyd wanna sell? i eventually wanna swap one in instead of my 10 bolt so might as well regear once.
these are the tires im picking up on saturday

There is alot of cool stuff going on in this thread.
OP the wheels are what's going to kill you, break out your cutting tools. And if you can sell that setup for a G then you have some morons where you live.

Just take the grand and buy what you really want instead of trying to force something just because you have it laying around.

well becuase id like something unique. i've always digged small lift big tires. these are alittle wider then i hoped but still doable... i mean come on how many obs trucks do you see with 5 inches of lift and 38x14s?

Well I can't argue with that! I am also a big tires/small lift fan. If you like it then go for it, but just be prepared for lots of rubbing on the frame and probably the bottom corners of your front fenders.
This is 38 inch military tires compressed. Look how much cutting he had to do.... It is SAS'd and lifted about 8 inches so your tires will probably be more centered in the wheel well but still...

i used to rub with 35s on 3 body and like 1 crank. after i swaped to truck bars no rubbing since then. what really depends on is if your 38s actually measure that. my friend had the 36 military tires and they measured like 33. i just beat the back of my fender in to clearance lol didnt want to cut that but i cut the bumper corners too

Kirk = 39.5s and 10 bolt hold up all day long. Bubba also ran 38.5s into the ground on a 10 bolt. If you don't drive like a Popsicle dick it'll be gravy.

When my truck was IFS I ran 38x12.5 TSLs with my ten bolt open diff set up. I never broke the rear ten bolt and I wheeled the sh*t out of it.

well got the tires saturday. need to buy valve stems. ill post some pics this week. they got some weather cracking he didnt tell me about but im not to worried. has anyone had a blow out due to cracking? is this more likely with bigger tires? my 31s look just aweful but ive driven them for 2 years and 380 miles straight in the last two days.
as for the ten bolt. if you looked at the original post im looking for a 14 bolt right now. i found its cheap to buy a 14 for 100 with 4:10s in it then spend 200 on gears for on axle. but im sure the 10 bolt would hold up.

He does. There is a guy in his neighborhood that paid $450 for junk tires.

well test fit the tires on my truck without the body lift just for giggles and even alittle bit of weight not the tires and one of the side wall cracks looked like it was gonna burst. they are total junk! the guy screwed me. on top of lying to me about the condition he called me today and said the chop saw blades were not the brand he thought they were when i handed them to him. so he wants $50 cash on top of the blades and the money. so he can go float a rock and im gonna sell the tires for what i can as a offroad only tire and keep the rims. anyone selling any 35x12.50x15 or 315/75/16 or 38s?
btw ill post the pic of the test fit cuz it looks pretty cool. as soon as photobucket stops acting stupid.

about The time he told me he took a grooving iron to them because they were worn,i would have offered to take tyre whole set of 4 off his hands for a mere fee of $20... It costs $1.50 to dispose of a tire here, plus a couple bucks for gas to get there.

I'd take the grille and the 1g and run. Your truck is going to hate life cranked with those heavy tire's. I'd take the grand and buy some nice 35's.
