Hello, I drive a 2000 silverado z71 short bed. I have been wanting to get a lift for quite some time now but have been unsure of some things. Truly i only want a lift kit for the looks and probably won't be muddin too much, but i don't want it to be a POS if i do. I'm lookin at and pretty set on getting a 6" lift with 35's. I wasn't sure if i would have brake line issues or not. I was also wondering whether i should get the add-a-leaf springs or complete new ones. Most of all i have no clue what brand lift i should get. i have been recommended to get a Skyjacker and to stay away from Rough Country.
Thanks, Brandon

for 1000 its now the same price as the obs lift and looks a lot better because of the ntd style. Not trying to convince you to change your mind but ive not heard bad things about RCX lift kits for those years

Thanks, what are your thoughts on upgraded shocks or the dual steering stabilizer. Worth the Money?

Since your going to have 35's id go with steering stabilizer as insurance but shocks are personal opinion on how you want it to ride

I have to throw in that rcx lifts are great lifts kits great customer service and designed very well. Absolutely best bang for your buck no doubt,Lift comes with extended brake lines so that is not a worry.Upgraded shocks are all personal opinion the shocks that com with the kit ride decent enough not to buy better shocks. As for the steering stabilizer, I don't even run a stabilizer so the dual is just a waste of money IMO.
Now you have more important things to worry about than shocks and stabilizers, 35 inch tires are some big meats that require some power to push.Stock gearing will absolutely suck,no power, gas mileage, not to mention the increase in strain on your transmission.I wouldn't touch 35's unless I had 3.73 stock gear ratio and even then I would barely drive the truck until it is regeared.

when my truck was IFS i always had good luck with Pro-Comp. I would advise you to get a kit that incoorporates new spindles and not just a drop bracket kit. drop brackets lower your ground clearance and tend to result in camber/caster problems down the road. Plus they need periodic adjustment to keep everything aligned. At least thats what I experianced. The add a leaves are not necessary if you are going to use springs that provide the lift in the rear. If not blocks are a cheap alternative if it is only street driven, but they do just typically suck. I had a 4" block break (the pin sheared off) and slide out from under the spring pack when i panic breaked at a red light one time. A two inch block is acceptable though. And you could get a shackle flip kit from ORD to give the rear 4"s of lift while using your stock shackles, and leaf springs. By far the cheapest way to give your rear 6" of lift.

From what ya'll are sayin, i guess i should go with a rcx lift. I'm wantin to spend about $1800 all together, i can fork up a little more if need be.

Just crank the torsion bars a little, and get the add-A-leaf for the rear, maybe $500. at most, spend the rest on decent tires. I don't think $1800. is a good price, because depending on the tires you get and the actual lift you get, and if both are new or used, changes all.

I'm planning on getting everything new and doing everything the "right way"
I'd prefer not to take any shortcuts when it comes to my pickup

just buy the one that has the most clearance underneath, theres some obs's drivin around and i have more clearance than them because of the drop down bracket -__- plus it looks horrible and probably has wind drag like a mofo! i'd say look at getting gears with your installation maybe get a good deal while your there some 4.56's would be great plus transmision strain will be way less and the mpg and torque will go up to move those 35's :D maybe look into getting some cv shaft spacers i hear those help but either way sas FTW!! lol for the money ur talkin 1800 geez with labor i hope lol

Alot of the lift kits i look at talk about using a drop down bracket. i can get a rcx 6" lift for $1000 off of thier site and it has
Front: Lifted knuckles, differential drop brackets, front & rear drop crossmembers, skid plate, sway-bar links, CV spacers, and non torsion bar drop brackets.
Rear: 5" fabricated anti-wrap lift blocks and u-bolts.
Shocks: Kit includes (4) Nitro 9000 shocks.
Are those shocks worth a damn? should i order this kit then get different rear springs? or should i get everything individually?
Sorry about so many dumb Questions

The shocks that come with the kit are fine but will ride a little more harsh than a more expensive replacement shock. If/When you decided to swap out the shocks I would suggest going to Bilstein 5100 shocks. If you want the best ride you can get out of the kit you will also have to buy some expensive rear springs that are a full 6"+ of lift, expect to spend on a pair of those what you are looking to spend on the entire RCX lift however. What I would suggest to do is buy the RCX kit and get it on your truck and run it for 6 months to a year. Then, if you decide it rides different from what you wanted, start upgrading components from there.

Depends on tires! With $1,000 for the lift that leaves $800 for tires but that wont cover the cost of the tires I buy...and we havn't even taken into consideration install price if he doesn't do it himself.

I am planning on installing the lift myself. I do like the idea of getting the lift with the blocks and then upgrading from there. That way i can have some money for gears right away :) what gears do you guys suggest? and i would like to get some pretty decent replacement shocks i think.

With 35" tires I would do 4:56 or 4:88 gears, if you think you will go with larger tires some time then go with the 4:88's at least. For me when it comes to shocks, it is Bilstein's or nothing.

I'm not really planning on getting anything bigger than 35's down the road. Around how much do you think it would cost to get 4:56 gears installed?
Thanks, Brandon

Parts and labor, anywhere between $1,200 and $2,000.

You don't have to buy brand new tires for it.

CRAP!!
Is that for the front and the rear I hope?
Gear kits usually go for around $500 to $650, so is that expensive for the install??
Thanks

You don't have to buy brand new tires for it.
And you don't have to buy a new lift, and you can install it yourself, or you could just not do it at all and save all sorts of money.

Yes, front and rear. It is a time consuming job and shops normally charge fairly well for it.
