I have a '97 4dr Tahoe that I pulled the engine out and am sending to the machine shop today so I can build it into a 383 stroker. Has anybody on here done that? If so I am looking for any input, tips, etc.

Im building one for my truck now you have a great platform since your starting with the vortec heads where as I am using the TBI heads. Your motor should also be roller which is a huge plus. Basically you just need to decide what you want to do with this more and build it around that. Decide on a cam you want to run and base your compression off of that (for the most part). A simple 383 with a mild cam, intake, im sure injection mods wouldnt hurt, and a nice exhaust to finish it off would be great.

Tons of people have done it. Usually a little clearancing is done at the bottom of the cylinders, any shop worth its weight in salt should know what to do. If you don't know what you're lookin' for, talk to the shop... again if they're worth anything they'll have connections and will be able to get you what you need for the build.

Not much can be done with the stock injection setup on a Vortec engine, but if you add a mild cam (XR264HR is what I have, it's excellent for a driver) and headers it will make for an excellent street engine. You will have to have some machine work done on the heads though for any roller cam with reasonable lift.
