View Full Version : Do you have a OBS with a Rough Country 6 inch lift?

I've read that the only difference in the 4 inch kit and the 6 inch kit is the AAL's that come with the 6 inch kit.
Which would lead one to believe the the extra 2 inches on the front of the 6 inch kit is all "crank".
I don't want to sound like a smart A$$, but I don't need anybody to reply here if you "DON'T" have a Rough Country 6 inch lift on an OBS.
I don't want to bog this thread down with needless banter back and forth about opinions.
I need to hear from someone who has one, or use to have one, and exactly how much "crank" they needed to make their truck sit level.
I'd like to get a 6 inch kit, but really would like the truck to ride good.
Which it won't ride very good if its got 2+ inches of crank under the front end.
I apologize if I sound like a jerk, I just need honest answers and I don't mean to offend anyone.
Thanks
Ray

i have one in my 95 yukon. i cranked it level and my cv axles are near level. rides WAY better than my 88 did with just a crank. the only thing i don't like are the shocks. they keep barfing the bushings out. i don't wheel it at all. she's just a street queen and i'm already going on my 3rd set of front shocks after about a year.

the front drop is exactly 5 inches so its really a 5 inch true lift that you crank the front 1 inch. I know this becuase I heard the same thing a month ago before I installed mine so I measured it myself. The rear comes with a 4" block and 2" add a leaf. So if you left it uncranked and ran just the rear 4" block it would sit level at 5 inches.

Glad to know that it rides good after the install. I've had my 91 cranked to get 285's under it and it rides okay except when it gets bumpy and then it rides like crap and will
bounce you all over the front seat. And I don't rawhide or mistreat my truck.
Hate to hear about the bushings. Don't mean to ask a dumb question but have you thought about trying to put some washers on either side of the bushings to keep them from crawling out? Wonder what it would do to put some silicon grease on them to lube them up?
Thanks

I just put the 6 inch lift on my truck a month or so ago and just put the adjuster bolts back to where they were factory and I have 9 inches of space between the tire and top of the wheel arch front and back. It sits level and rides a lot better than I thought it would. Still haven't wheeled too much with it yet but Im goin to a Mudfest in mid-May and I can let you know how it does after that. Hope this helps.
And I can see how the shock bushings would push out cause they are a little sloppy when you "press" them in the shock eyelets. Haven't had the problem yet though.

I had the Superlift on my 91, which is basicly the same type kit. It was 5" drop for the front, 4" block in the rear with 2" add a leaf and I cranked 1" to level.

It's a 5.25" +/- .25" inch drop, as attested by everyone who has ever installed one. We did mine a little over a month ago and I measured 5.5" from the bolt holes for the stock bracket to the bolt holes on the new bracket for the diff. Wish I would have taken a pic with the tape measure next to it for everyone.

I took a tape to the kit before I installed it. Center to the hole to center to the hole on the drop brackets were 5 inches on the money for me. mabe they vary some?? I have no idea

Well, 5 inch or 6 inch, whatever.
As long as it rides good.
For $995 I'll try it.
If anymore have any thoughts on this, please continue to post.
Thanks

I forgot to ask but are these kits you fellows are speaking of the newer style that the company is saying is
new and updated for easier install?
Or could it be an older model?
And where is a good place to purchase this kit?
Thanks

Its a good kit and good price. You'll like the ride, and I would get it from National Tire & Wheel. But thats just me.

Aren't there some places you can get the kit at that offer free shipping?

I just got mine in Feb so it is the latest style. And I just bought it from Rough Country's website. It was $1150 shipped I believe with the steering stab and shock boots

If you use a promo code at JC Whitney you can get it for around $950 or so shipped. I got mine for less than $900 shipped from Auburn Off Road here at FSC, but they are no longer selling RCX kits from what I understand.

Yea, I looked there.
I also found out that at NTWonline you can get free shipping on orders over $1000.
And since I want a 3 BL also, that will save me a little money.
Anybody know where I might go and see a bunch of pictures of an OBS with a 6+3 lift installed.
I'd sure like to get an idea what mine could look like.
I've found a thread that had some pictures, but they were of all body styles, from 1987 all the way thru 2012.
I'd rather just look at OBS myself.
Thanks
