View Full Version : 1997 K1500 Vortec350- What is the tube going into the driver side exhaust manifold?

Just curious about what the tube going into the driver side exhaust manifold is. I am buying shorty headers and I was just curious about what the hose does. I figured that it cant be AIR because its only to one manifold, but I may be wrong.

Any help would be greatly appriciated!

might be for the egr valve.

egr valve is used for emissions. lets exhaust gases back into the intake to aid in combustion. if you have emissions testing it is required.

The shorties I was looking at do not have the egr provision. Thats what made me wonder what it was.

You should be able to get some bolt-in headers with an EGR hose fitting.

In a little more detail, EGR basically lets the computer run a little more spark advance while cruising. EGR gasses are inert, so they don't actually burn - the combustion process slows a little due to this, which helps aid in detonation resistance.
