I currently have a 95' reg cab with 2" drop spindles in front and the shackle and hanger show in the rear. As I should have known, I want more. I know the front is a no brainer to do drop coils for 2 more inches. But in the rear....from scratch I know the flip kit would be the way to go, but I don't want to hunt down stock shackles and hangers to make the rear stock again to just buy a flip kit. Are there going to be any issues if I were to just do the drop leaf route a long with what I already have in place?

I'm also needing new shocks all around for this. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good shock that won't shock my bank acct.? I've heard some dodge dakota shocks work well in a 4/6 drop scenario.

Please help me out with any input that can point me in the right direction.

Yes you can add drop leafs to the rear with your shackles and hangers. I ran my truck that way for years. Just remember that you'll be at 8" in the rear. If you have adjustable shackles, you can move to the 1" hole and be at 7". Get yourself some 3" springs up front and give yourself a nice 5/7 drop.

For rear shocks, buy for a ~'92 Jeep Cherokee Sport. For front, buy for a ~'98 Dakota.

I'm happy with Doetsch shocks, you can get'em from summit racing.

This is the info I was looking for. Thanks guys. I heard about all kinds of different shocks to use but wasn't sure. Don't they have lowering leaf springs that are only 2-3 inches though? I'm not opposed to a 5/7 but was working on the 4/6 due to my tires. Running a 275/45/20 and want to be able to turn. Not looking to cut too much up as its my DD. Will that set up still work with those wheels?

Thanks again for the input guys. I am definitely going to check into those doestch ( sp) shocks and the dodge jeep route for the best fit for me.

:matty: Except they are our right now of the drivers side....ask me how I know. :teddy: So I just bought the Western Chassis drop shocks. $47 a piece from Summit.

Those are some huge tires even for a 4/6. I drove around some with my 5/8 on stock 235/75-15s, but even those are shorter than your 20" tires. I think I've heard of 2" drop leafs before, but I'm not sure. Some of those more oddball components are becoming really hard to find these days.

I'll vouch for the Doetsch Tech shocks as well. I had them on my 5/8 drop and on a dropped '99 Yukon I had.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, just piggy-back on it a little. Do you have a similar recommendation for my '90 RCSS with a 2/4 drop? Thanks in advance!

If your front is dropped with spindles, then you can use stock shocks. If you used coils, then go with the above. I'd go with the above for the rear as well.

Right now i am running just the coils but am going to order the spindles as well that is the reason to get new shocks. It has the stock ones right now but it rides bad. So its best to go with doestech?

*Any of these will work?

Spindles don't change anything as far as spring rates or travel. It's the shorter travel from drop springs that necessitates shorter shocks. Whether you add spindles or not to your truck, since you have drop springs you already need drop shocks.

Doetsch Techs are a good choice, but I have no clue what part #.

I figured its because of the springs but since I am going lower and it rides like crap I figured to go ahead and get the shocks also but I think I'm going to give the Monroe's a try I'm sure it's going to ride a lot better than it does now

I'm bumping this thread because that advice will not work for me. My rear shocks are two different sizes. The passenger side shock hangs from the front and is a lot longer than the driver's side shock which hangs from the rear. Can somebody please help me find a set of shocks that will fit my 4" rear drop (done with Belltech drop leafs) and give me a decent ride?

ETA: 1990 GMC Sierra C1500 Regular Cab Step Side with DJM 2' Drop Coils in front and Belltech 4" Drop Leafs in rear. I need shock recommendations, please!

You can run the same size on the back. DJM among others say the pass side one is bigger (and it is) but some still get by with the same on both sides. I just bought Western Chassis drop shocks and they are both the same size. The pass side barely makes it on, but it does work.

But wouldn't that mean that one side (the shorter side, I think, but this is confusing) would have more pre-load than the other?

I was thinking along with the advice I heard about dodge Dakota shocks being right for a 4/6 drop....does anyone know if people use or if they even make air shocks in that size? A guy could run the air valves into the gas lid and add or let out as needed for ride quality or maybe a bit stiffer to allow for load capacity? Might eliminate having to add helper bags after the fact.

Just curious.
