Had this come on at lunch today(changed the oil at 66,700...now has 69,550(Feb. 24th I changed it). Checked the dipstick and nothing at all. Put what I had in my truck, maybe about 3/4 of a qt, checked and the tip of stick is covered(light went off). It's not leak'n anything and my exhaust is running clean.
I wouldn't think it would burn 2qt's in that amount of miles.....

Guess it's an important note that I was helping a guy here at work check his fuel pressure guage so we had it hooked up. When we took it off it is when the oil level light came on, now maybe that had something to do with it. I couldn't tell ya.

When was the last time you checked the oil? You either didnt put enough in when you changed it, burn some or leak some....there isnt really anything else.
What engine do you have?
Dont rely on those idiot lights...check your fluids once a week. An engine low on oil can destroy itself in a matter of minutes.

It's been about a 1,000 miles since I checked the oil, been lazy about that. But I know I put in 6qts. I put in a 5.5 jug and 1/2qt.
I only hauled maybe one load of wood and no heavy towing, other than some highway driving to work or back home. Just doesn't add up to me.

Also note that my oil pressure guage is dead on 40

I change the oil every 3,000 miles, 6 filled and 4 plus a little, out.
The low engine oil message has appeared, around time to change.
I recently installed oil cooler lines to a new radiator. It's capacity is 1/2 qt. more.

I think that this year truck and the years around it have had issues with the fixed orifice PVC valve sticking and using excessive amounts of oil, I know that a few guys on here have had that issue and maybe someone can confirm this or give exact details.

Almost 3000 miles. my 02 with 4.8 burns about a quart of mobil 1 every 3000-5000 miles. i wouldnt be too concerned with it unless it gets excessive. does it smoke on start up(ie blue in color?)

Yeah I was thinking maybe the PCV Valve aswell, or atleast my buddy was. I'm heading to the Autoparts store to get some more Oil and go from there. Might replace the PCV valve just for grins, if I can find an AC Delco one in my area(dealership would be my best bet?)

No smoke on startup and nothing comes off on finger when rubbing the inside of the exhaust(magnaflow).

I am not sure if the PCV valve on your truck are replaceable or if they are a fixed part, I was hoping someone could chim in on that.

probably be wasting your time replacing it because it already has the new style fixed orifice pcv.

Just saw this, no, it's not smoking at all and I pulled the hose off the PCV and every thing looks clean to me.
