I hav a 98 454 mpi in a k2500. It recently developed a Squawk, and a rattle at approx. 1800. the squawk is a "revolving" sound, Chirp, chirp, chirp. Take belt off, no change. In gear, out of gear, no change. Rattle sounds to b valvetrain. Not noticable at idle but at 1800, definetly a rolling, rattling sound. 20 psi oil pressure hot idle. Odometer reads 80,000 (but I suspect the dash was changed)

Any Ideas?
Right now i am checking out pricing on a new Long Block.
I am curious if anybody has dealt w this before.

20 psi at hot idle seems a bit low. What weight oil?

10w30 Kendall motor oil. Upon teardown found a bad roller lifter on #2 exhaust. Wiped out the camshaft too. So changing the cam and lifters. Then keeping my fingers crossed!

While doing that, consider advancing the cam. In the giant thread we talked about this, but no one that I'm aware of has actually done it with these engines. Talk with N0DIH (Tom) on here about it. He had a line on a company that has the timing set that you'll need.

20 at hot idle is what my truck has, sounded low to me but 20 is gm's spec so i guess it's ok.

Agreed, it is OK, but on the low end of acceptable.
Do you have a mechanic's stethoscope? It'll help you narrow down the location a bit better.

I assume you're also replacing bearings while it's torn down? That should take care of the low oil pressure issue.
