so ive been reading threads for the last 6 hours trying to find some answers before making my own..

i have an 02 silverado 4.8. been trying to figure out how to approach a new exhaust set up. the overall goal in the very least, is to not bring down the efficiency of my truck. im not expecting to throw on a new muffler and get another 100 hp. however, anything in the right direction is of course a positive thing. i was trying to find answers on a muffler that would help efficiency without being obnoxiously loud (saw alot of people recommending magnaflow and spintechs, but the people asking were looking for something loud). on a scale of stock (1) to holy flying pile of dog f***, batman (10) i was looking for something smack dab in the middle. it seems to me that aero 3030xl are the closest to what im trying to find. doesnt hurt my mileage, doesnt break the bank, nice deep tone (do NOT want sharp popping and cracking), isnt stupid loud.

also tried reading up on the worth of high flow cats. seems to me thunderbolts are recommended. but also saw 00+ chevys came with cats that flowed just fine compared to high flow unless they had alot of miles on them (my truck has 155xxx, time for new ones?). couldnt really find a concrete answer on that whole situation either.

aside from those two things, was planning on getting LT's and throwing an x pipe in there.

in short:
-wanting overall exhaust system that wont hurt efficiency/power, moderate deep rumble and necessary

So I take it you want to do duals? Nothing really wrong with that but I personally prefer single 3" on most trucks. I have a 16" magnaflow muffler on my truck with a single 3" exhaust and it has a really low rumble to it, is probably about a 5 or 6 on your scale and doesn't pop or crackle. At 155k and 10 years old you're right on the line for new highflow cats imo. If you are going to redo the whole exhaust system I'd change out the cats too. Longtubes will help.

yeah, i was originally wanting to get a true dual but the guy at the local muffler shop back home pretty much told me i was retarded and that wasnt going to help with anything lol. unless running a stock y pipe will be the same as an x, i was planning on doing a dual with an x pipe.

i guess what im really looking for with this thread is objections outside of personal preference to what im planning on doing. am i going to get what im expecting/wanting with LT's, thunderbolts, x pipe and aero turbines?

I don't know anything about those mufflers but that sounds good, what size piping are you planning on running? I'd recommend 2 1/4"

That sounds like a badass setup...dont let that new guy come in here and convince you to get a FM 10 lol

Haha, yea def don't do that

First of all I'd reccomend the stock single 3", but if u have to have duals I'd reccomend 2-1/4"

Also, my dad has an '08 sierra RCSB 5.3 and he looked for mufflers for a long time and wanted exactly what u want...he wanted a nice rumble at idle, some growl when u step on it, no drone, and quiet when cruising...and the dynomax ultra flo 4-1/2x9-3/4x14 with a 3" center inlet/outlet is exactly that, its what I'm gonna put on my truck, except with headers since I want it a lil louder and want headers anyway, I'd reccomend it, a girl I work with has a '06 ECSB 5.3 and she wanted the same thing u want, and I reccomended it, and she got it, then she said how it was a little on the quiet side but I told her it'll get louder, my dads did....and it'll got a lil louder over time and she loves it, its the perfect balance IMO, I'd call it a 5 on ur scale for sure...a 4x9x14" magnaflow is very similar but its prob more like a 6-6.5 on ur loudness scale because it is thinner and skinnier, which is why my dad opted for the dynomax...and he ran a tailpipe all the way to the back and it dumps behind the rear bumper where it can't be seen

Sounds like you're on the right track. I'd look at an H pipe over an X pipe. From what I've read, seems like they help a little more with the low end torque over an X-pipe.

Put catless longtubes in front of the OEM catback. It sounds great, not loud, and flows well enough for your goals. Oh and its economical.

yeah, and the eBay headers will be perfect for that.

i definitely had it the opposite way in my head. so i went back to check and now im completely lost again. everything im seeing is contradictory to the previous thing i read.

the most concrete thing i was able to find was a dyno from a mustang running 3000 rpm up to 5400 with both an x pipe and h pipe. wasnt much of a difference between HP and torque and its a different motor/car so how much could i really take form that? the only thing it seems everyone can agree on is h pipes have a deeper tone and x pipes have a raspier tone.

Hi I was looking at going with flowtech headers shorty (already on truck) I just got the matching 3in flowtech y pipe I have a hi flow aftermarket bullet cat 3in I have a 70 series flowmaster on it now to Quite. Its all 3in all way back. It is all on truck but the y-pipe that is stock at moment. I need more rumble. This all on a 93 suburban. If i change my motor to 383 is this still a good flowing exhaust or would duals be better ? My 383 plan is a year off but will be very mild and be built for all torque under 3500 rpm .
