View Full Version : Front diff drop plate?

So I did the typical half ass, cheapskate trick to get some height on my '93 K1500 by turning up the torsion bars.. I know now this was a bad idea :dunce: Been driving it that way for 5 years or so and I'm officially sick of replacing ball joints, C.V.'s etc. What I am curious about is if I could buy/make a diff drop plate to correct the angels on the C.V.s and maybe something I could use to help take some stress off the ball joints without buying a full 4" lift kit. I like the height it is but I don't wanna deal with replacing a bunch of parts once a year and I honestly don't want to go with a 4" unless its my only option. Anybody got any thoughts on this?

Well IIRC RCX and Superlift make a kit that comes with torsion keys, shock extenders and like a 1 inch diff drop. It still relies on cranking for the lift but it would help the angles a bit. It costs a few hundred dollars though. Maybe i you found some good pictures you could copy the drop part of it. Or order it, copy the parts then return it.

I have seen the keys but I looked and couldn't find a diff drop, so thanks for that info, a few hundred bucks is fine i just cant justify 1500+ for a 4 or 6 inch.

To correct the geometry you need to drop the diff, drop the UCA, drop the LCA, drop the t-bar cross member... = full lift kit.

I would crank 2'' for free before I bought that abortion of a 3'' crank, UCAs and rickety 1.5'' diff drop bracket.

What do you think is wrong with the kit? seems like it would do what I need it to.

How are your ball joints installed? through the upper a arm like stock, or have you flipped them and bolted them to the bottom side of the uca?

They are flipped to the bottom side.

And I posted my opinion to try to save him $450.

I thought my post explained it.

The only thing worth a chit in that kit is the UCA, otherwise it is just a glorified torsion crank, so you get all the drawbacks. No correction for LCA angle (rides like 3" of crank), TRE angle, diff is only dropped 1.5" so CVs run at 1.5-2" of crank, UBJ is correct some, LBJ gets band aided by UBJ angle improving, and the UCA is just made to clear the droop stop and correct UBJ angle and give enough camber adjustment.
You have the same problems as your 2" crank.
Drop to 1-1.5" crank, it's where my OBS stopped eating parts.

Good enough, thanks for the info.
