I am currently in the process of dropping my 91ecsb 4/6 and I have DJM2055-2 2" drop spindles and they are about 1/2" too short for the brake rotor. I called DJM to see what I can do to fix this and they told me to buy DJM2056-2 drop spindles. Apparently my truck is a heavy duty model (not the way I wanted to find out!) I was wondering if I could buy light duty brake rotors and be ok. If I can do this will the bearings I already have still work? I just hate to buy another set of spindles! Thanks in advance!

The bearings for the HD brakes are different. You will have to get rotors, bearings, and I am not sure about the calipers.

that sucks. did you buy the spindles new? just send em back for a swap for the right ones. once you start buying other parts it could add up more pretty easy. shipping the spindles sucks BUT when you check out rotors bearings, and hope thats all ya need. thats gettin up there already.
and lets face it do you really want to downgrade your brakes? IMO i wouldnt.

Agreed. I'd just send the spindles back for the correct ones.

I didn't buy them new I got them from Btetz on here. I was trying to figure out my options and it makes more sense not only because of the brake downgrade but it makes it a lot easier to swap to 6 lug in the future. I have decided to go ahead and just buy the new ones and keep the ones I have for the next truck. Thanks for the input!

or slap them on your local craigslist for sale ;)
tho i hear ya on the 6lug swap. im dam near tempted myself since you can find some 6lug rims really easy and cheap! finding nice 5x5 is a real crap shoot!

I'm worried I've got the wrong spindles too, I'm pretty sure my 91' has light duty brakes and I've got a DJM pair with the longer shaft. It's been so long since I"ve seen the rotors I forgot which I had.

I know you made your decision but thought id just throw this out there too. I just bought all new brakes for the front of my 90 (light duty brakes) and the guy at the part store said the calipers were different as well. He said the caliper is actually quite a bit bigger on the HD models. I'm glad i decided to just replace the LD stuff because i had no idea the spindles were different.

addiction2bass: The wheels that Randeez has in his build thread have stuck with me. So as much as I don't like it normally I am going to have to be a copycat lol.

Stealth HD: If you check out your spindles and need the ones I have pm me and I am sure we can work out a trade. I got them second hand new and all I have done is paint them black and the driver side has been installed and taken out.

07tbss: Yea I got looking and didn't get past the rotors at $55 a crack I didn't even look at bearings since I was already close enough too the price of new spindles. It doesn't surprise me that the calipers would be different too lol.

Try to sell them...recoup some of the costs and get the ones you need. You're asking for a headache trying to work around the wrong parts. Yes, you'll be able to find a work around to make what you have work...but it will be a PITA and usually costs a lot more than starting with the right stuff up front. Either way, good luck on the project.

88-91 standard cabs got the light duty. All 92-98 and extended cabs got heavy duty.
