I am currently Building a Chevy 355 engine for my 88 Chevy truck. I already have vortec heads, gmpp intake,454 tbi, flat top 10 to 1 pistons, right now I am looking for the baddest cam I can put into this engine. I plan on running 91 octane, I have already purchased a edelbrock 2102 but after more research I feel like I am going to be diss appointed in this cam choice. Even if I decided to run 1.6 rockers. I don't have a problem getting the heads machined for more lift. And I plan on using an ebl to tune. I am just not that experienced in cams, so I am wondering what everyone's option of the best cam choice for best power, I am still using a flat tapper cam btw, would prefer a cam lifter set. Let me know what you guys think, and thanks!

For hot street use one around 225-230º on the intake side. You'll need gears (3.73-4.10) and a reasonable stall to take advantage though. HP should be 360-400 depending on what cam you run. If you go by powerband (i.e. Summit, Jeg's, etc.) look at ranges starting anywhere from 1800-2200.

What compression ratio, what truck, what gears, what trans, what stall speed, for what intended usage? A cam that might be fine in a 1/2 ton regular cab with a 5 speed and 3.73's could suck horribly in a 3/4 ton 4 door 4wd with an auto and tight convertor. Vehicle application has a ton to do with cam selection, as does compression ratio.

It's a regular can short bed, 10 to 1 comp, 700r4 tranny 3.42's I'm looking for decent quart mile times with some street ability. I can change the converter stall to whatever is suggested with the cam as the engine will be out anyways. Let me know what you guys think.

Voodoo 60104.

alright, now do you think i will be able to program with my ebl with that cam, or is that strictly a carb came, and i will obviously have to use at least a 2000 stall converter

You would be surprised what the EBL will handle. Some guys on TGO are running upwards of 500hp engines with it. It may take some help from Bob to get you going in the right direction, but it's doable. My cam says it's not "computer compatible", but it sure seems to do fine far as I'm concerned.
