Ok I have a 2001 2500 non hd silverado with the 6.0. Have long tube headers, cai, no cats, electric cutout, y pipe to 3" exhaust through a dynomax muffler and a bb tune. I'm looking to put in a cam and bolt on new heads. I will probably put the cam in first and later on down the road a new set of heads. This truck is a daily driver, about 8-10 miles a day if that. I want more power and a good lopey idle. I would like most if the power gains to be in the 2000-4500 rpm. Any suggestions? Also I have the stock converter and I would like to keep it unless it really needs to be changed.

I would change the converter before the cam personaly. Unless you tow regularly a 3000 stall will give you more noticable gains then the cam will. Especialy a cam with a stock converter. If you tow a lot then you would want to stay a bit more mild on the converter.
Also once you add a cam to the mix the converter will become more important. You would be foolish to install any cam an not add a converter.
As for cam selection you aren't going to want a very loapy idle. Being a truck and heavy you want the low end power like you apparently already realize. A cam in the mid 220s on intake and exhaust is what you will be looking for.
