i dont have the time or the tools to install my long tube headers anymore so im going to pay to have em installed the problem is that one of the bolts in the back is broken off and i cant tell if its broken flush or just the heads broken off
the shop i plan on bringing it too said they would charge me 100$ a hour and however long it took thats what they charge since they aint making any money on parts.
half of me is saying to wait and save up for new heads cam etc but the other half is saying just pay for headers to be put on then tune it and call it a day
anyone know how long it could take to take the broken bolt out and put new longtubes in?
02 silverado 1500 doesnt look too bad rust wise and ive seen worse for sure
sorry for grammar and such i aint too good at much besides turnin wrenches
i just dont wana get bent over with the install by having the place have to take heads off etc to drill out the bolt and then mess up the heads etc cause i dont have money for new heads yet and if im doin heads i wana do cam while im in there but then we come to the problem of how much power can the stock tranny with a tune handle cause the setup im looking at would bring around 450 horse
88k miles btw

I'd run away from an hourly quote. For a lot less you can buy the tolls and wrench on headers one afternoon.

i have all the tools id need i just dont have the time to A have more bolts break or B time in general i work 7 days a week and cannot get time off to struggle with it, i barely spend any money so i can afford to pay to have em done fortinately but id rather do it myself just cant find time if something happens

You're going to pay out the wazoo for someone to install them. Maybe you should motivate yourself to put them on yourself. There's more than one way to remove a broken bolt. You say you're good with wrenches. Do it man.

I put mine on with one broken bolt. No leaks, took less than half a day.

this is why he said buy tools, but as I see in your other thread you have a ton of tools.
Install will take 4-8 hours depending on any problems you may run into(including removal of old manifolds), and if your just using jack stands or have a lift. Either way, your paying out the a$$ for an install if they are charging $100 an hour.

yea i dont have 4-8 hours to spare i work 8-6 every day and sundays 9-4 and i have to have my truck driveable in case of emergencys
i dont feel like working on it into the night and if i have to drill out a bolt im in trouble since i dont have 100% sure knowledge of taping and such as i havent done it a lot or enough to be confident on heads of my own vehicle

Well then at least find a better shop. 100 and hour is crazy money for headers.

It's not hard, if you have the right tools, and rights parts. If you don't have much time or don't want to add headers yourself, just get it done by a pro. Yes, it will cost more, yes you won't have the satisfaction of doing it yourself, and no, you can't be 100% sure it was done right by the pro. If you really want to do it yourself, make time, it sound like to me you have a lot of time to do it, I wake up early, can have it done before work, sleep a bit late and you can have it done with time to sleep.
I'm not trying to be mean, but if you don't feel like it, get it done by a pro, if not, keep your stickers or add headers yourself.

When I went to install my headers I had the same broken bolt before I started!!! It more than likely is broken flush as mine was. I ended up leaving it like it was because the head would have to be pulled to get it out. So saving up some money for some patriot heads b/c I have the infamous 706 Cracktechs!!! So far no signs of leaks from the missing bolt. It took me about 8hrs b/c I decided to try without dropping the trans cross member and broke my 15mm deepwell!:cussing: Here's some picks before and after.http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j471/hin532/photo.jpghttp://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j471/hin532/Mobile%20Uploads/3F27798F-434F-4D72-AD34-389ABC608643.jpg

thanks for the info im going to tell the guy if its broken flush dont bother trying to remove it if you have to take the heads off but then again it would be a good time to do intake gaskets and head gaskets just to be safe oy idk since eventually im going to put heads and a cam in it just gotta save up the money and wait till its worth it
i know these trucks are infamous for intake gaskets and ive been smellin a little bit of coolant or thought i have been but no leaks seen and none out exhaust

these trucks have dry intakes, there is no coolant going thru the intake. Your thinking of the OBS trucks, they are the ones that have intake gasket problems. Sounds like your willing to give the truck up for a few days worth of work. .

So what exactly were you planing on doing for transportation when the shop had your truck for the install? Go with whatever you were planning on using there, use it for a couple days and work on it a couple nights.

I can survive for a day or too but all my tools are at work and there isn't enough room in the lot to leave the truck there
