so, this is my first classic, and my first engine swap, im only 17 so this would be the biggest thing i'm about to do, i figured after a bit of research i'd come here for a little more specifec guidance.
so i have a 81 chevy k10, with a 350 in it right now, and its just a gas guzzler, and i'd like to swap for the fuel economy, my tranny is a 700, and i'd like to know, what exactly am i getting myself into with this? and all the pieces ill have to pull out of the 6.2 to make the swap succesful.
anything will be appreciated, thanks.

The 6.2 is rather gutless but can be made to put out a few more ponies with a 6.5 turbo. Your trans will not work as teh internals are different from a gasser to a diesel. The 6.2 will get much better mileage adn will drink about anything you pour in the tank. I ran an IDI 7.3 on waste motor oil for years as a farm truck. I say go for it.

What kind of shape is your truck in? Lift, wheels/tires? Axles, gears?
You might be better off finding a truck with a 6.2 already in it.
Then you would have a stronger trans, stronger axles, better gears.

assuming diesel.

Yea I would agree he most likely is talking about a diesel but how cool would a square body with a ls 6.2 be? :rocking:

My 6.2 is far from gutless :)
