If you want a nice deep rumble, go with a Flowmaster or Magnaflow.

are there major differences between the two? which is the better brand?

Theres not that much of a difference. i personally like Flowmaster better. Thats what i have right now. You can go on Youtube and listen to them.

Flowmaster will get louder over time if you go with a 40. 50 series and up will be quieter but won't be very loud. I have a Pypes single 3" with headers and it's very beefy sounding outside, but very tolerable inside.

From about 40s til the end is a good idea of how it sounds.

My '91 Silverado has shorty headers & I put Flowmaster 40 on it. Sounded like crap. I ended up taking the cat. converter out & going with a standard exhaust with great rumble. Perfect sound for me. My '92 Sierra has a 2 to 1 kit & it sounds great. The wife likes it louder. Check the laws in your state regarding safety inspections & emissions. Here in Missouri they start emission testing at 1996 & newer & they just told me that my completely modified '91 350 has to have the cat. converter, 02 sensor, egr valve, stock intake & exhaust manifolds, etc etc etc. Basically it has to look like it did when it rolled off the assembly line. Worth looking into if you have emission laws.......

Dynomax Bullets! just a little quieter then straight (no muffler) pipes. Got dual exhaust on my 96 5.7 350 vortec with 3.5" tips and it sounds really good and you can definently hear it inside but its not so loud that its obnoxious
