Factory steering wheel question...

Got a vinyl covered factory steering wheel. Vinyl is getting a little ratty - looks like Captain Hook has been driving it. Can an upholstery shop recover the wheel factory style, or does it need to be replaced?

yes, I know about the lace-on covers; I know about duct tape.

I swapped mine out for a brand new leather RST steering wheel, one of the best things I have changed. You can find the leather or original versions new on ebay fairly cheap. Even if a local shop could repair it, I think the cost would be more than replacing it.
