Blue's 6.0 swap

Maybe a little boring to some but I'd figure I'd post up some pics. Started yesterday taking the bull bar and grill off. Only got that far b/c of the damn rain. Today I got a bit further. Never took a LS motor apart but they seem simple enough haha.

Is this oil coming out of the intake normal? I tilted it forward and this started flowing out after about 20 sec.

Me too haha. Justin at blackbear has my computer and is tuning it as we speak lol. 6.0 is coming tomorrow. Having an issue with the collector bolts right now. I need to pick up a deep 15mm 1/2 drive socket and a longer 1/2 extension the one I have is too short.

Well trucking company called and said they are "stuck" in ohio so motor will be her tomorrow instead of today. So No real picture updates. I took off the exhaust, starter flexplate bolts, loosened up all the trans bolts and took off the ac comp off the motor. Gotta say having the body lift is actually nice. I can get to all the trans bolts easily and i can get my hands between the frame and body to get to all the random bolts.

Heavy build up of oily sludge on the intake runners in the head and that much oil in the intake is pretty indicative you had the same/similar issue I did with the PCV system siphoning oil into the intake. Bad valve cover stops the oil from draining back off the baffles... I'm betting the sludge stopped it from draining back, so it kept sucking oil into the intake.

On gm parts direct they list for 17 bucks hopefully the dealer has one in stock for a decent price.

IT RUNS!!!!! I'll get a vid tomorrow but I just finished getting the belts on and fan shroud and stuff. Got alot of other small stuff but I got it running. Such a good feeling to have it turn over first try. Motor is verryyy smooth and quiet. Much more quiet than my 5.3. Gotta get 3 new exhaust manifold bolts though because 3 of the originals were broke off in the head and I didnt know it. I have an exhaust leak now but Im sure it will clear up as soon as I get those bolts in.

How much did you pay for the motor? Don't expect the trans to last long BTW, my relatively stock 5.3 took out my trans almost 3 months to the day after getting the swap complete.

I was going to do a 6.0 swap into a 99 2wd/4.3 I had. Unfortunately I totaled it first. I am very interested in hearing what all you had to do to make this engine swap. And what kind of performance difference you get.

Motor cost me 2,350. That came with all the covers oil pan etc and a 3yr 100,000 parts and labor warranty. I didnt think that was too bad. People around here wanted 1700 for a 6.0 with 135,000 on it. Thats crazy!!!

Also Im having major issues with this damn vette servo! I installed it per the directions and vids I saw and went for a drive. The damn thing shifted at 4000 rpms and had no 2nd. I manually shifted from 1-od and I had no 2nd gear either. Pulled it out 5 more times checking and re checking the o rings and split rings. Took the ones off the stock servo and made no difference. So I got frustrated after the 6th time and put the stock one back in and got 2nd back. I think I might screw with it tomorrow and see whats going on. But once I got 2nd back i took it for a good drive. This thing rips!!! Breaks the 33's loose with ease lol. So gald I went with the 6.0 and not another 5.3.

And as for the servo Got it! One thing that is bothering me though is that under power braking when in 1 and 3 the truck does lunge forward a good bit but 2nd doesnt do it as much. It shifts great while driving so maybe Im just being paranoid.

Define power braking... as in attempting to do a burnout?

Easy explanation.

4L60E Gear selection
1-only 1st gear
2-ONLY second gear (does not use first)
3-Uses Gears 1, 2, 3, no 4(OD)
D-Uses Gears 1,2,3,4(OD)

In 1 and 3 it will lunge, as both times it is in 1st gear. In 2, it is in second gear, so it has no guts at all.

Yea I hear ya lol, I bought headers and ordered band clamps which were on backorder from summit, so I canceled and reordered from to RockAuto, got em in 2 days and put them biznitches on last night, couldn't wait to get em on
