View Full Version : NBS radio into OBS?

I bought a 97 Silverado EXT cab, 4x4 Friday afternoon. My buddy (whom i bought the truck off of) bought a 34 Silverado EXT cab 4x4 and I love the radio that is in the 04.

I'm wanting to know if both radios are the same plug because I'm looking for something thats plug and play, and I want to keep the stock look.


Reason for wanting to swap radios is my cd player has stopped working, plus I love the 04 radio much better!


If anyone can chime in, I would appricate it..

Not only are they not the same plug, they are different sizes as well. You will have a lot of work to customize the dash in your '97 to fit it and also the wiring work. It would be much easier to just invest in a quality aftermarket stereo than to try and make a newer model factory one fit.

Thanks for your response man. I don't really want to go all out on this truck, and customize the dash and all that. Just want something, plain and simple, but I like to keep the stock look.

Right now, me and the girlfriend are talking about marriage and all the good good stuff, so I won't have tons of money to invest in the truck as it's just my work truck, but still when I feel like going out on the town and stuff, It would be nice to have quality sound, and possible DVD playback.. So I might invest in a screen and stuff like that, but I'll cross that bridge when it comes time. For now I'll probably just buy an aftermarket radio and dash kit like you said.

Just thought about this, but if you can find a DIN and a half unit that has the CD player out of a 99-02 fullsize, or any other gm vehicles (pretty much all of them during that time frame) that had those same radios, the plug should be the same.

Right on.

I looked at an 02 radio today and the plug was different. Don't know if it was out of a full size, but it was the same size as my radio.
