When my truck was stock, i loved my corsa db black. I still think it is the best muffler for a stock truck. However, with my LT's and ORY (no cats) i dont like the sound. Idle is quiet, which is okay... but it would be nice if it was louder at idle. Up to 2000-2500 it sounds awesome, but the mid range (2500-3500 or 4000) it sounds like garbage. Much like straight pipes, its loud and claps and is raspy. Almost like a machine gun. Horrible. From 4000 to the shift it sounds pretty good though.
So im looking for a new muffler. I have done all the searching and youtubing i can stand to do. And we all know youtube does not do exhaust justice. I want a muffler that does not have excessive drone (i know nothing is going to be as drone free as my corsa, but i can not deal with flowmaster level drone). I really like loud, as far as im concerned it cant really be too loud as long as it sounds good. Most importantly though i want a smooth, clean, deep tone. I do not want any clapping or raspyness.
Okay, so not much drone, I still want loud, looking for smooth, clean, and deep tone.
From the searching i have done i believe one of these will most likely my best bet: spintech 6000, magnaflow (dont know what size, thinking 5x14), or hooker aerochamber.
Spintech - definitely meets loud requirement. Cant beat the sound of it at idle. Doesnt drone too bad. Only thing is im not certain of is the tone and sound. I believe i have heard it has a very deep tone, thats great. Not sure if it sounds clean behind LTs with no cats though. Also dont know if it drones bad or not.
Aerochamber - Definitely deep, smooth, and clean. Definitely one of the best sounding mufflers as far as tone goes. They are not very loud though.. thats my only concern though. Not sure about drone with them either.
Magnaflow - Magnaflow is kind of a no lose muffler. Its a safe option for any set up. Seems like no matter what you put a magnaflow on its not going to sound bad. However, im not convinced that it will be better than the spintech or aerochamber. Heard they are a little raspy behind long tubes with no cats. Not sure though. They do have a little drone, but not too bad from what i hear.
Let me know what you think. If you have a set up that meets my criteria lets hear about it! Open to all options.
Oh yeah, i will be using all stock exhaust piping (everything behind the y-pipe is stock, aside from the corsa).
