View Full Version : Largest tire for a stock 2009 Silverado 1500 Z71?
Been doing some searching but can't find what I'm looking for. I've got an 09 Chevy 1500 with the Z71 package, it came with 18" wheels. I'm looking to put some bigger tires on it but can't figure out the largest size that will fit without rubbing. From what I can tell if it had 17" wheels (which I might buy and put on) then I could get 285/75R17 tires to fit, but I have yet to find anything that talks about the max tire size for the 18's. Anyone on here ran into this before?

A quick search on Toyo's and BFG's websites shows this...
Toyo Actual measured size...
285/75/17= 33.8x11.2x17
275/70/18= 33.1x11x17
BFG Actual measured size...
285/75/17= 33.9x11.3x17
285/70/18= 33.7x11.5x18
Max height and width are the same no matter what size hole you cut out of the center for the rim, so you just have to find a size that works for you in the rim size you have/want to get.

Also Nitto makes a 275/70/18 that they claim is measured at 33.62x11.1
I should have clarified a little more, lol. Will the 285/75R18 run on the truck without rubbing is what I'm trying to ask. Don't want to trim the fender wells or anything just to get the tire on without rubbing.

A 285/75/18 is considered a 35" tire, likely rubs plenty.

For the OP...Metric tire measurements (285/75/18) are not the same as standard tire measurements (33x12.50x18). A standard tire measurement of 33x12.50x18 is the same size tire as a 33x12.50x17 with the exception of rim size. With metric the second number (xxx/75/xx) is a percentage of the first number (285/xx/xx) and that percentage takes into consideration the rim size (xxx/xx/18). Because all the numbers are a percentage and play off the other just changing the rim size COMPLETELY changes the entire size (height and width) of the tire. That is why a 285/75/17 measures roughly 34x11.22 and a 285/75/18 measures roughly 35x11.22. This is also why I gave you comprable metric sizes for an 18" tire to the 17" tire you were asking about in my very first post. I hope this clears things up for you.

I run a 285/65/18 Nitto Trail Grappler on my 09 with a Daystar Leveling Kit. No rubs at all.
