98 K1500, needing new tires soon. Looking to go with 295/75/16. The top two choices in that size (there aren't many) are the BFG's and Toyos. They both cost about the same, and I have heard both have good tread life.

Most of my driving is on crumbling, poorly maintained country roads (Northern California :whatever:) at 45-65 mph. Said roads are often wet.

My uncle has the Toyos on his F-250 and says they are a good tire, but they suck in mud. I don't go off road much but when I do, there is almost always mud involved. Often it's that super thick farm mud that pulls your boots off.

Please share your opinions and experiences with these two tires. Which ones are best for the conditions I mentioned above? I am leaning towards the BFG's because my dad has had them on 3 trucks (70 something Hilux, 86 K10 and 92 K1500) and is about to get them for number 4 (05 Dmax). He swears by them.

The BFGs are ok, but Generals are much better.

Genral grabber at2's are hands down better than bfg ats.... I wouldn't waste money on bfg's if it was my call

Between the toyo's and bfg's, bfg's win, but if your going to compare the bfg's and generals, the generals win IMO

Generals huh? I'll have to look into those. Anything specific about them that is better? My main concern is wet road driving, because there is a lot of that here and many of the roads here have edges to fall off of and other such dangers.

I had BFG ATs on my truck for a few years. I had bought them new. Compared to the old tires, they were great. But last year it was time to replace them. The tires had been rotated several times and I had it aligned once. I also had it on a machine just to make sure a couple months later. The tires also had been rebalanced a few times, the last time was on a road force balancer. But even with all of that, the tires like to wear a bit odd. After much online reviews, I bought General Grabber AT2s. They are even cheaper. The BFG tires were good, but the Generals are much better in every aspect. Handling is much better along with traction. Road noise and vibration was much less. Offroad, there's a bit of a difference. And the General tires are closer to the advertised size. The Generals are about an inch taller. I haven't had them in much snow and ice yet, but I expect much more out of them than the BFG tires. And you asked about wet roads, my BFG tires would loose traction so easily in the rain, haven't had a problem with the Generals.

If it matters, my truck is a '94 rclb C1500 with a V6 and 235/75R15s.

I too have the generals. They are an excellent tire and have done great in the mud here in KY. Superb grip in snow as well. On wet roads they are fine. They are a heavier tire... I have about 20k and they are wearing great. Still have lots of life left. Probably another 15 to 20k at least.

Thanks for all the input guys! Hopefully I can find somewhere local that sells them. What do you guys think of buying tires online? Road hazard warranty is a must-have, but some websites seem to have it.

of your tire choices, toyo gets my vote of the two you listed. but generals are not bad. you could not give me a set of BFG AT's.

but i buy all my tires online. i know discout tire direct has a road hazzard. i never get it, so no experience, just know that they do offer it. main thing is, unless you have somewhere that will mount and balance for a good price or can do it yourself, many times it is a wash on cost. tires may be cheaper, but most tire shops charge more for outside tires to be mounted. i mount and balance all my own, so online is much cheaper for those of us who can do it ourselves.

For what you described I'd run coopers. I have property up near Sonora California and I go to Auburn/Placerville and the most common tire you will see is the Cooper AT3 or the Cooper S/T. Both are decently priced and wear really well. My girl is running the STT by Cooper on the Tahoe and they are a mud tire but last forever. Might want to consider that.

I have never ran the Toyo's so all I can honestly say is I have heard they are good. I just took some BFG AT's off my truck after less than 9,000 miles because they did not do as well offroad as I wanted them to. I hunt ALOT and when I point my truck somewhere I don't want to have to worry about anything. If I know I can fit my truck somewhere to go recove game, I don't want to have to second guess if my tires will get me out. For this reason, no AT tire would have been good for me. The BFG's were a great all around road tire, one of the best I have had for snow/ice/rain. The main place they disappointed me was in wet grass, they slide all over the place on wet grass untill you dig through and hit dirt/bud to grab onto.

Here was my truck with the BFG's...
