So when I got this truck I noticed the radio sounded awful. Thought maybe the stock speakers were blown. Nope. They're just not there. I've got four tweeters and a blown 8 inch sub at this point. The other holes are empty!
I've picked out the speakers and the sub I want, I think...
Pyle speakers

Legacy sub

All together this is $60 worth of audio equipment. I'm a cheap bastard and I think these pieces are at an appropriate price point for a $3100 used truck just to get it fully functional again.
The reviews on the sub say it's a pretty good replacement for factory subs, like Toyota Avalons, Ford Explorers, and FSC's. One guy had trouble installing it in his 2002 Suburban. He had to drill two holes, whoopee. I don't have a problem with that. The speakers, well, they have the highest ratings for under $25 speakers and they aren't illuminated or too funky of a color. They don't put out a lot of bass but they do put out good mids and highs. I think the subwoofer will take care of bass just fine and honestly, 6.5 inch speakers will sound way better than 1 inch tweeters, don't you think? I do know that the front door speakers are supposed to be midrange speakers but will 3-ways cause any problems if installed in all 4 doors?
The only caveat here is the sub is 4 ohm. The factory sub is 2 ohm, but you have to spend at least $60-$80 to get a 2 ohm 8 inch subwoofer. Those are JBL's or Kickers or other high end brands. I think for $15 I can live with less than perfection. But I can always change it out later, right?
