View Full Version : 71 C20 exhaust questions

I have a 1971 C20 4x4 truck, however most parts stores list only 2wd C series trucks, and list the 4wd trucks as K series. To my knowledge during this time frame the K denoted blazer or suburban body style and C truck, however I will stop rambling on. I have long tube headers on the truck and was wondering if this kit will work for the rest of the exhaust. It is regular cab 8ft bed, I am not worried about having to lengthen the intermediate pipes, but if the x-pipe will clear the drive shaft. Also the truck is a 4spd manual, not sure if that matters. Here is a link to the kit.http://www.jegs.com/i/Dynomax/289/89027/10002/-1 Didn't know if anybody had experience with this or what I would have to do to modify the x-pipe. I am starting to think true duals would be easier, but I can't find a kit for that, although I could piece it together I guess.
thanks in advance.

I don't own a welder, or know how to weld that well, and I do not own a pipe bender, but probably could get my hands on one. I just don't know if the X-pipe will clear. If I can buy tail pipes and header flanges I could always run true duals and then clamp the system together to get it to my friend who can weld it.

x-pipe? might be easier to install an h pipe, or go two to one.

K means 4wd and C means 2wd. the number after it denotated the weight class. 5 was a blazer, 10 half ton, 20 was 3/4 toon and 30 was 1ton. If it was a suburban, you would just say k10 suburban or something like that.
You might just try one of those hot rodder exhaust kits that just comes with a bunch of bend pieces and pipes and set it up yourself with clamps till you could get it welded. This link is to the cherry bomb kit, but I'm sure there are others if you don't like it.

Thanks for the link, but my truck is a 4x4 C20, it apparently was a rare option but in the 70s the C stood for pickup body and the K for blazer suburban and the G for van bodies, and then of course the weight class as above, however most people just refer to it as a k20 which is fine, and that is how I have to order parts for as well because all the part stores have no 4x4 option for the c series trucks, it can be frustrating at times.
Anyway thanks again for the links.

I've never heard the C/K designation used like this before, they stemmed from the model designation in the glovebox, which is K=4x4 C=2wd. Even at that both the VIN and model use C and K to distinguish 2wd vs 4wd.

Thanks for this info. The cine starts with cke so it is a k series then? I just have never seen these body style trucks badged as a k20 only as c20. I got this information from an older guy so it is entirely possible it is all wrong.
