I am in the middle of an apparently never ending 4/6 drop. I have DJM 2056 spindles and stock 5 spoke mags after I buttoned up the front of the truck I put the wheels on and the inner lip is hitting the tie rod end. I bought 1/4" wheel spacers and they still hit (not nearly as bad). Since I was planning on buying new 15" rims I was wondering if anyone has run into this and what backspacing did you run/how did you fix this? My tires are 225/70s I have no problem rolling the lips. Here is a pic of the truck as it sits with the wheels I have for reference. Thanks in advance.

You need 5" backspace and no wider then an 8" wheel.
Did you trim the gutter on the lower control arms?

Yepperssss !!!!
Like 454SS said and you'll have to trim your rain gutters with 15" wheels.

Trimming the rain gutters is how I found out I was having this issue. I was double checking clearance and turning the wheel lock to lock and noticed it was really difficult to turn. The inner edge of the wheel is hitting the tie rod end. Here is a pic. sorry for the crappy cell quality but you will see what I am seeing.

Yup, if you have aftermarket tie-rod ends (which you do) They will rub on all stock 15 rims except the sport/454 rims...they will still be very close though. I have Moog tie-rod ends and had to grind a pretty decent radius on them for stock steel rims not to rub.
The stock aluminum rims are the worst offenders, followed by the stock steelies, then the sport/454 rims have the "most" room.

Thanks! Do you know of any aftermarket steel 15s that work? I keep looking at basic "D window" wheels for example.
Not off hand. I grinded my tie-rods and still use the steelies in the winter and the 454 rims in the summer.

do you think this issue can be avoided using different spindles like belltechs, since they push the wheel out a little?

Possibly, I know I never ran into an issue (with DJM's) until I used non stock tie-rod ends.

What kind of crap enineering is that. Is it the amount of drop of the spindles. I have 2' drop spindles on my truck, and they are nowhere near close to rubbing my wheels. And I've had all the above mentioned wheels and have finally settled with 15X8 stock rallies. What about flipping the tie rod? I know it would require machining the spindle out, but it would get it away from the rim.

Why not grind a radius.....or unscrew the tie-rod end and buy a GM one?
Neither is a big deal and quick.....unlike machine work.
