Sub box in single cab.

I have a 1985 single cab. I want to put a sub box in it but I'm having trouble finding enough room with a bench seat. I want to keep something like a bench seat, maybe buckets and a center seat console because I don't want to sacrifice any seating.

I have two different ways I'm willing to go.

1. A sub box behind the seat. Then put bucket seats in it with a center seat/console and put the amps under/in it.

2. Put bucket seats in it then put some kind of a sub box/seat in the center. Then the amps behind the seats.

My main problem is I need to fit the sub box, two amps, and a capacitor in it.

If I went with option 1 would I have enough room to fit both amps and a capacitor under the seat/console? Would that be a good idea?

If I went with option 2 does such a sub box exist that is also a seat?

Im also open to other suggestions.

Alpine makes some bad @ss shallow subs if you're short on space. They're expensive as fück though.

yeah Thats not the problem I'm having. I can't figure out where to put the amps and capacitor while steal being able to fit three people in the cab.

I'd keep the bench with subs in a wedge behind it and the amp and cap under the seat.

yeah thats what my original plan was but then I got to wondering if the amps and cap would fit under the seat, so I started to look for different places to put stuff. but I finally decided that I'm just going to stay with that plan and if I need more room under the seat i'll raise it a little bit. I just ordered everything except for the wiring for that set up so I'm not changing my mind now.

here is mine. seet is al the way back and the box mesures i think 4" top 8" on bottom 30" long. another thing.... DO NOT GET A CAPACITOR!!! just get a nice main battery and do the "big 3" and you will be fine.

That looks like a nice set up. The only thing is my sub box is going to take up the whole space behind the seat. I plan on putting a second battery in my 97 when I do its stereo, I just didn't want to go that far with this one. Some people have even told me that I still need a cap even if I put a second battery in, Is that true? Why do you say not to put one in? Would I be ok without putting another battery in?(with only a cap)?

a cap puts extra load on the power system and with a heavy bass hit a cap only lasts less then a sec then have to charge back up witch is why they are more ore less useless. in the end they just put some more strain on the power system. also depending on how much power your running all you need is the main battery and do not need the 2nd battery. if you did use a 2nd battery a small one from xs power, SHURiKEN, or kenetic.

im running just 500-600watts rms along with e-fans (the real reason for the 200amp alt), HID's with a single optima battery and 200amp alt. unless your pushing well over 1000wats rms you wont need more then a good battery and the big 3.

ok so if I'm only going to be running like 300 watts rms
would I be ok with a single battery(without the big three mod) and no capacitor?(so id only be running on a single battery).
or would I need the big three mod?(so then id have a single battery with the big three mod but no cap).
or if I didn't want to do the big three mod could I run a single battery and a cap?(so id have a single battery without the big three mod, with a cap).

hahah your way over thinking this...

just set up your system and run 4awg wire for power. for that much of a system you may not even need the big 3. why waste the money on stuff you may not need. all the big 3 is upgrading the wire from grounding points and the wire from the alt to the battery. it helps with current flow and can fix headlight flicker.

Ok, so your saying not to put a cap in just run it off of a single battery and try it without the big three mod first, then if I need it do the big three mod?

yup you're getting it. as for an install kit get this http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KFX-AK8 should have everything you need for a sub amp.if you run anything more then say 700wrms then i'd step up to 4awg kit.

with my box my sub is actually pressed against the seat (not really a good thing to do) but i haven't had any problems with it for the 5+ years i have had it. for subs i would look at the sundown audio sd-2 10" as they are probably the best "slim sub" on the market. they are 4.5" deep tho but if you can stuff them totally worth it.

Thanks for your help. I actually ordered everything two days ago. From sonicelectronix.com. The only thing I didn't get was the wiring because I'm putting two amps in so I need a dual amp wiring kit and there prices where really high. The amp you posted looks good, but I'm not putting anything that big in, I'm not even spending that much on the amps. I just want it to sound pretty good, but didn't want to spend a bunch of money because its not the nicest pickup out there.

I understand. In my setup the most expensive part is the compnents i have in my doors. They were around 160 or so. Imo all you need is some speakers for the doors and forget the rear as they are not needed and a single 10 sub. With that you just need 1 4ch amp and have the channel 1 and 2 on the speakers and have 3 and 4 bridged for the sub.

Yeah that would probably be enough, but I kinda wanted to keep four speakers(in the rear corners of the cab, and in the corners of the dash). so I am going with a mono amp for the sub and a 4ch amp for the speakers.

I had 4 8's in my bagged 84 I use to have. Amp under the seat with all wiring. Had to move the seat up a little but im 5'9" so its not a big deal.

Thats what I was thinking, If I need to I'll move the seat up a little bit. In theory it'll actually give you more leg room by doing that, but less head room.
