the main reason you want to switch out the fact radio is to get rid of the fact eq/crossover in the fact deck. to compensate for cheaper speaker in the cars they program in a eq curve with cross over points. replacing it gets rid of it and gives you control over your sound. the fact speakers are a joke in any car, replacing them with something med range would be your best bet. keep in mind sound quality is subjective to the listener so what you may think sounds good not everybody will. go to a shop and listen to what they have to offer in there board and make up your own mind as to what you like. myself i am missing some upper range freq in my hearing so i like a little more tweeter than most. others its mid bass. a good speaker to start with is the jl c2 line up silk dome tweets and very good mid bass. they can be run off a small amp or headunit power. i run the kicker ks in my truck for the alum tweeter at more volume. if thats not enough bass look into a small sub and amp, jl and kicker both have a bass station with an amp built in them and are easy too hook up, and dont waste alot of room. i am referencing mainly jl and kicker because it is what i carry in my shop so i have them as a reference and know how they sound, if you run an alpine headunit they do make a nice little plug in amp for the back of radios that is simple to put in and really give you great sound with out all the cables and space of a normal 4 channel amp. and the alpine type s speakers do perform pretty good. hope this helps out a little. and just so you know i am a mecp master installer and just made the mobile electronics top 100 installers list for the second year in a row :)

kicker actually has something out a little better than the bass station now its smaller and provides quite a bit of sound, its called the hideaway. I'm not sure of the retail cost on it but I have put in a few of them and they sound good for the amount of space they use. just some input.

i got a new set of speakers, i went to local walmart and bought 4 4x6 sony xplod speakers. i only got the front 2 in . right now they sound real nice and clear. all i need now is to put the back 2 in and go buy a aftermarket radio and im sure they will sound even better!

I'd recommend an Alpine deck and add the power pack. Plugs right into the back of the deck and bumps the watts up to 45x4 rms. No amp or wire kit needed. Happen to notice Bestbuy had it on clearance the other day for under $100.

well im tired of breaking everything trying to get the back pillars off to switch out the back speakers, so heres my idea. i get 2 small boxes and put some 1 6x9 in each box and put them under the each side of the seat and run them to my existing speaker wires. what do yall think? what are some of your guys's ideas?

Better idea, ditch the 6x9's for the rear and get a good set of amp powered components for the front.

Ok just saw you have a regular cab...

All you have to run is a good set of component speakers (midrange and tweeter) and a decent 2 channel amplifier.

If you want to run a small sub as well, get a 4 channel and just bridge the other 2 channels to power the sub.

Sure, but i'm just telling you the simplest and best sounding option...

6x9's are not know for being awesome, a nice 6.5" component set in the doors will blow em out the water

The phoenix gold are pretty good for the money, some of the little bit higher end DLS components are good.

The other option that you could do is just run a couple Sundown Audio Neo-pro 6.5's and cross them a little higher. I am running those right now without tweets and they play so nice. They get loud without distortion as well

im running some of the sundown NeoPros and they sound great and get quite loud and sound clean while doing so, and they are begging for more power ( about 100RMS per right now )

I just put 6x9 all round in my truck with a 400 watt amp then I'm going to get a MTX-CS10 sub for center conceal. My system rocks I have no distortion. My 6x9 are Kenwood and I have the 4 way set up speaker. It was a little difficult to put the door speakers in cuz I had to cut the door panel and also had to cut the metal skin a bit behind the door panel. I also had to use a 1.5 6x9 speaker spacer that I color matched to the door. Then for the rear speakers I used 6x9 speaker boxes that I put under the rear seat. As far as my amp goes I put it under the passenger side seat. Oh I have a 93 extend cab C1500

I installed mine at lay'd out at the park this year and my friend told me he could hear them clear as day across the field about 150yrds away...They impressed the crap out of me for 6.5's

yep, they do that. i have 4 8's in my truck on a single 125.2 and they get loud. cant wait to throw more power at them. wish he had the 6.5's before i rebuild my doors.. would have had 4 of them per door!!

you could still give them more power then that. im giving mine about 100RMS each, with 3 pyle pro super tweeters ( before they stopped working ) my doors were retarded loud and clean.
