My radio squeals when my truck is running and the radio is on. it goes up as the RPM's do. is this a bad ground; and if so where would the ground be located?
Its 1988.

Could be a bad/cheap plug wire, or cap to coil wire.
I used to set my old toyota truck to AM 1400 to check the ignition components. Everytime it had ingition issues AM 1400 picked it up as an rpm dependent squeal. :D

Caused by power wires running next to RCA cables or speaker wires (ground loop). Remove the ground wire from the head unit harness. Ground the casing of the head unit to a good ground. This becomes your source ground. Ground the amp to the same place. This will prevent the ground loop (basically ground looping turns your wiring into an antennae).

Power wire issue I believe like above.

Its called alternator whine. It is usually caused by a ground loop as stated above. It sounds to me like it is a factory head unit?

So basically when I do a new head unit I'll run a ground to a new location instead of the current.

Factory wiring is pretty noisy as it is. Unfortunately, its hard to always pinpoint where it is coming from. Your best bet is to run your own ground.
