I just put my new CB in my truck and noticed that when I am idling and key up my RPMs shoot down to about 500 then come back up but the engine runs a little rough until I release the mic button then it goes back to normal. It'll also make the RPMs fall when im holding them at 2000 its not as big of a drop then but it still falls. But the whole time the volts stay constint the gauge never once moved. Any ideas on what is going on or is this normal?

how much aftermarket stuff do you have powered through the battery? i mean do you have amps/stereo/offroad lights. my thinking is that your pulling to hard on the battery/alternator so its causing the motor to work harder. but dont quote me on this. its just an idea

^Agreed.

Alternator is hitting max load or overloaded. Some of those CB's are huge wattage, which can mean big amperage draws.

OE alternators are sometimes only 100amps (which is at peak, could be peanuts at idle), but there are OE options for upgrade that bolt in, usually up to 160+amps. Aftermarket is full of high to insanly high output alternators.

I got lucky, previous owner spec'd the 145amp alt on the order sheet for my truck. :D

I do have subs and a set of off road lights however they were not on at them time. And even when i turned ever electronic thing I could on in my truck I could not replicate what the CB would do. And the CB isn't a power house either. Its a midland 1001z thats peaked at like 7 watts LOL. Also if it was that wouldn't I see the volts drop?
