New to the forum folks, need some ideas for lowering my '96 2dr 2wd tahoe. Something on the budget and that's not to radical, was thinking maybe a 2/2 Djm drop? I'm a college kid and I've dumped most of the $$ I have under the hood with aluminum heads, an lt4 hotcam, intake and bolt on list that's to long to list, ready to give it some exterior swag though.

I would start with a 3/4, you will barely notice a 2/2 and want to go lower right off the bat.

But a 2 2 drop will keep most of the truck's ground clearance-functionality and might not even require any shimming of the rear end.
How about some pictures.
Must say kdhs10's looks nice-love white trucks-especially when it is so freakin' HOT like it is in south Louisiana now??
You FLA folks are having rain right?? So maybe not so hot lately??

Yea north Fla has been gettin it bad, but I'm in Hattiesburg Ms goin to school for the summer so I haven't been seein much. What would be the best parts to use as far as gettin it lower? Spindles, Coils, shackles? I really don't wanna do anything that requires a whole lot of extra fab work to get in it, bolt on and go is kinda what I'm wantin.
Will post a picture as soon as I figure out how to do it lol

Guess I have to get more adept at posting links.
This is for a 2 inch rear drop -leveling kit- for your Tahoe. Full front and rear kits- 2/4 drop are about $200.
The advantage of a small drop -just rear shackles- is they are cheap-easy to reverse- and maybe not so many problems getting that angle right-shimming.
Look at it as a learning experience.
Big lifts take bigger $$-and they BREAK rear ends if you don't do it right-AND they stress rear ends when you do it right!
Besides you can always go "big" and sell your used kit once you remove it.
Start small, safer, easier, cheaper-and just like school-learn your way.

PS I'm older-61-and you'll find as you get older you will become your father grandfather-you'll become more conservative about changing things from stock- you'll understand that the OEM engineers were pretty smart-
AND COMFORT SOFT RIDE RELIABILITY MPG will be more important than anything else
Yeah old guys are BORING SISSYS when it comes to modifying stuff.
Do whatever is fun for you-take a shot- don't go crazy $$ wise at first-start small buy name brand items-
You can always resell name brand kits !!

If you are wanting to go lower/bag it in the future I would get spindles first. And Shackels for the rear are pretty easyand cheap, just have to move the fuel filler tube up some.

Go as low as possible, once u start lowering it, it will never be enough and you will want to keep getting lower. It's like an illness that keeps progressing, or maybe that's just me :)

Yeah, lets see this bad boy. Especially under the hood.
Either spindles or coils will do that and shackles out back will get you where you want, like said, you will need to move the filler neck.
You plan on droppin it more in the future?

Thats what I did, well, not really. I did a 5/7 first. Then I put it all back to stock because I couldnt tow my trailer. Currently I have 2" coils with pretty big isolators and flip with helpers that lift it to where ever I want it to sit. I guess its roughly 2/3 maybe.
Do you have a photobucket account?
