I just dropped a Vortec 350 in my S10 and need to find TDC so I can properly set the timing. How do I do this on this engine?

like any other engine... remove spark plug, turn over till your finger pops off, and then line up the balancer with the tab.

Vortec's don't have tabs on the timing cover. That's the part I'm wondering about.

I thought you meant the traditional metal one that sticks out. But my cover doesn't have that either :( It's an aftermarket.

I have used a straightened wire hanger stuck down in the plug hole on top of the piston...then just slowly rotate the engine until its at the top of the stroke

i would do that, but first pull the plug and turn it over till your finger blows out, so you know your on the right stroke.
