So i've been reading and getting a lot of valuable information on this forum and am starting to get a base idea of what my plans will be for my 96 454 Burby. That being said, a cam swap is on my priority list. I use the truck mainly for towing but I also take it out joy riding from time to time. It has 4.10 gears and I havn't done any mods to it. As far as cams go, Voodoo 60621 or 454 Ho or a 502 cam? I want the cam that'll best suite my needs and that wouldn't require any machining work to be done to the heads. I don't mind changing the valve springs etc... just don't want to have to remove the heads.

My plans are:
0411 Pcm swap
Longtube Headers(Headman or Thorley)
Cam and necessary head parts
Injectors and fpr (not sure what size inj. yet)
Dual 2.5 inch exhaust ( I currently have a Magnaflow cat-back)
Dynotune/Custom Tune
Volant CAI
160 degrees thermostat
Maybe e-fans
Cowl hood
Maybe Aluminum radiator(Performance)

My goal is to get as close to 500lbs of torque as possible with the stock bottom end. I just can't seem to get a definate answer on whether any of those listed cams would suite my needs and if they do, would I have to have the heads machined for the recomended cam upgrade parts to fit.

Also, with these listed mods, does my goal sound acheivable or am I missing something?

stock radiator is sufficeint and go with a 180 stat 160 too cold, set of ls1 injectors, maybe ls6, stock fpr, check mercruiser cams for the 454 too. I heard of a few peeps using them. I see you are so cal so you have the same problem as mee Need to pass emissions.

Ok but as far as emissions go, I recently smogged the truck and by the time it's time for another smog, I'll be living in Texas:) that being said, would that help things out a little? Also, I know people who have cammed 5.0's and they p0ass Cali emissions but their cams have a carb number. Other than Comp Cams, there's no other cams with a carb num for our trucks? And with the listed cams above including the Mercruiser one, would I have to remove the head to have it machined so I could install the proper assistin cam mods to the head?
