I have a 1989 gmc ext cab I've replaced the 4x6's with polk audios and my head unit is a pioneer why does it sound much better in my 1998 suburban then in my gmc the sub is factory. I also have a second question the speakers in the dash on my 89 gmc and the pillars in the rear use up the 4 channels on the pioneer soon i will be trading out my door panels to the 95+ door panels these have speakers in the doors and the tweeters now my question is do i need an amp to run the tweets and the six speakers

If your just gonna use the pioneer, i would just eliminate the front dash speakers, and run the speakers in the doors. You can only get so much sound out of a 4x6speaker. If you are going to run all the speakers, you would probably want to get a 4ch amp..
