i have a 99 suburban and on the rear view mirror theres a compass and a temp display. the compass works fine but when i switch to temp it reads OC. what does this mean and can i do anything to make it tell temp again.

the sender at grill area may be toast or unhooked

Not that I know of. You can get those things from a salvage yard for cheap. I'd just spend the couple of bucks and put a new one in.

I got mine from a Salvage Yard. They said it came out of a 2000 Suburban.
It has Outside Temp and Compass. It was a piece of cake to install. I went to the Chevy Dealership and bought the temp sensor (I think it cost me about 13.00) and mounted it up front of the grille.
If you decide to go that route there is a thread here somewhere with the wiring instructions.
You will need to run a wire from the sensor to the mirror.
A wire to a power source
A ground
and there is a wire that goes to your reverse lights to cancel the auto dim feature when backing up.
