Popping sound then it quits

I have a 1997 Chevy k1500 with a stock sound system. The problem I have is the radio will pop then the entire headunit will go black for a second then it will come back and play normally. But the time on the headunit will be off and it cant keep the right time after I shut the truck off. It has happened 5 or 6 times in the last week. How can I fix it?

If it were me, I would just replace the radio with an aftermarket...
