I've been driving around in my stock 86 K20 and its only purpose is to mud and cruise in with a little bit of street rodding. It has a th400 tranny and it shifts good, and when its supposed to. But whenever I get into it, about when it starts sounding good and pullin hard, it up shifts. I was thinking a shift kit would help but I'm not really sure where to start or what to look at. So if anyone has any suggestions, they're welcome. Thank you.

Have you adjusted the kickdown cable properly?

Th400 has no kickdown cable.

Oops. Well, GreaseDog would know better then me. The behavior you describe, with my TH350, would probably mean the kickdown was not adjusted properly.

So is there any shift-point adjustment on a TH400?

i remember hearing theres a hex head bolt in the modulator to adjust that??
