Ok so I have a 98 silverado and seems to be a running issue with most in this year range. My fuel gage bounces all over I get a rough idea of how much I have in the tank but it is annoying as all get out. What is the issue? Fuel sending unit?

No real help for you, but I have a similar issue so I'm bumping out of interest. Like you noted we seem to be in good company. Mine normally reads the fuel about right plus or minus about 1/8 a tank either way. So it appears to vary with about a 1/4 tank range, maybe a bit bigger. Sometimes when I fill it up it goes to full, sometimes it only goes to 3/4, but then doesn't start dropping for a while. It also seems to have about 1/4 tank left while reading empty, but as I found out this might be intentional because these trucks can't always reliably use the last few gallons or so on unlevel ground. My fuel pump went out about a year ago and I elected to replace the entire pump/sender assembly in the tank and it didn't change anything. I pretty much always fill the tank and reset the odometer when I get gas so I can make a pretty good guess by the mileage how much I have left. I just treat the gauge as a general idea.
